Koborn and Dragobold

Koborn and dragobolds are the hybrid offspring of dragonborn and kobolds. A male kobold and female dragonborn result in a koborn, while the much rarer case of a male dragonborn and female kobold result in dragobolds. The hybrids are extremely rare, and many often disguise their true parentage. Both koborn and dragobolds are infertile.   Koborn are usually somewhat taller than dragonborn, and if exposed to Dragonstones within the first ten years of life, gain the same magical abilities as dragonborn. Like kobolds, they have tails, and are likely to exhibit kobold-style patterning on their scales. Although generally stronger and more likely to have magical abilities than either of their parent races, koborn also have a weaker constitution, are susceptible to disease, and die earlier than either parent species.   Dragobolds are generally the same size as kobolds. They do not gain the same magical abilities as dragonborn, even when exposed to the same sources of power; however, they do have limited resistance to certain magical forms of damage. Dragobolds may or may not have tails and wings, but in general look more like dragonborn in their scale coloration. Dragobolds are extremely hearty, resistant to both kobold and dragonborn diseases, and usually live as long as or longer than dragonborn.   In most dragonborn cultures, hybrids are seen as abominations and often the parents of dragobolds or koborn are cast out along with their hybrid children. Even in cultures where the relationship between dragonborn and kobolds is friendly, there is a sense of unease about the existence of koborn and dragobolds.   In contrast, most kobold cultures celebrate the existence of koborn and dragobold children, treating them as examples of magical power and the strength of dragons. There are, of course, exceptions, especially in extremely xenophobic societies. Oddly enough, the kobold cultures that have the best relationship with dragonborn are the most likely to reject hybrids, possibly due to the dragoborn's general distaste for them.

Basic Information

Growth Rate & Stages

Koborn generally reach sexual maturity at the age of 12-13, and often exhibit hatch-feathers like dragonborn. They are usually altricial when born.   Dragobolds reach sexual maturity at around 8-10 years, and rarely exhibit hatch-feathers. They are almost always precocial when born.
