Personal history

Rustil was born and raised in the Salt Slums. He was raised by his moonfather who taught him not to expect too much from life. He accompanied his father to the docks most days, and pretty soon the sailors and dockhands adopted him as sort of a mascot. He spent so much time running around the warehouses and worksites he knows the Waterfront District inside and out. When he was barely into his teens, his moonfather fell ill and Rustil took his place on the crews. Even as a youth he was big and strong, and quickly earned the respect of his fellow crewmates.   His moonfather's illness resisted healing efforts, and Rustil watched him wither. As Rustil grew more desperate to save his father, he was marked by a snake oil salesman who conned him into spending his last coppers on a miracle cure that, naturally, only made things worse. When his father at last succumbed to his sickness, Rustil blamed himself. He spent the next several years on a self-destructive path, until he found a degree of peace in the worship of (ironically) the tempestuous orc god of wind, Xorag. Rustil joined several Xorag-worshipping ship crews, learning to sail and worship the wind as they traveled. When he finally returned to Grasmere, Rustil was a bit more worldly and convinced that life was a matter of taking you where the wind blew.   Rustil planned to stay only long enough to put his affairs in order and was set to ship out for good when he happened to meet Thirrus. Thirrus was a dangerous sort, but they saw in each other a kinship born of sadness. Rustil taught Thirrus about Xorag and they agreed that together they felt safe. They were married and moved into Rustil's moonfather's house and Rustil abandoned his plans to return to sailing, getting Thirrus a job back with his old dock crew. Things seemed as idyllic as they could imagine until Thirrus was accused of embezzelment and was fired. Rustil lost status among the crew as well, and they began to fight. Money was never plentiful and with Thirrus out of work, they fought often about money.   Thirrus was then savagely attacked during a barroom brawl. The injuries he sustained stole Thirrus's voice and Rustil raged against the injustice of it all until he sought council with a Xoragian priest who planted the seed in Rustil's mind that mercy was for weaker gods, and true devotees of Xorag would seek retribution. The couple began to plan to get their revenge.
