Elkus

The Horrors of the Night

Home of origin to mankind; since its creation, Elkus has been cloaked in endless night. The stars dot a pitch-black sky, while the moon hangs sullen and barely radiating enough light to see. It is a godless land, where priests and clergy alike are unable to contact the upper planes or communicate with their patrons. The entirety of Elkus is covered by trees that seem on the border between life and death, always leafless and often rotting, yet never falling naturally. A soul freezing chill runs through the air, and it is often said that the sudden visibility of one's breath when entering the land is the soul begging to turn away. Aside from humanity, countless horrors of unfathomable terror stalk the lands. Beasts and demons spawn from the shadows, while greater horrors devour them in a tireless ecosystem of death and decay. Curses of undeath plague the countryside, while Lycanthropy and Vampirism dwell in the halls of man. Despite all of this, humanity survived, as it always has, by adapting and growing to meet these constant threats. Without Watchers

The land is forbidden to higher beings. Nary a celestial nor god can pass into the realm, with the reasoning beyond fathoming. Over the years, the people have grown strong without higher entities, depending on themselves. However, due to this, the weak are often culled and the survivors cannot tolerate an inch of weakness.

The Sullen Waters

The most immediate entryway into Elkus is the natural bridge connecting it and Torrix. The horrors of the land have spread into the nearby waters, making travel by boat even more hazardous than travel by carriage. Trade is seldom done with the few towns that stand against the darkness, and the risk has caused merchants to turn tail.
