Dreadnaught Class Cruiser
A Dreadnaught Class Cruiser is the largest type of space fairing craft in the two systems. Though multiple factions have access and utilise Dreadnaught Cruisers, they are most common in the United Fate Military Corps, and are classed as Human Made Space Craft. Humanity being the only people bold enough, or stupid enough, to fabricate and construct colony scale ships, for warfare.
Propulsion
Like other Human made space craft, Dreadnaught are propelled with both Origin Drives and Chemical Rockets. Though due to its immense size and mass, often the chemical rockets are only used as a supplimentary engines, maintaining speed. To get a Dreadnaught moving in the first place, the Origin Drives are used at a fraction of their output, supercharging the engines to get it up to speed.
Weapons & Armament
Dreadnaughts come with a full complement of outboard cannons and missile systems, with cannons of both ballistic and plasma base munitions. The full complement includes both autocannons, and manned turret emplacements.
Armor and defense
The defences of a Dreadnaught vary between vessels, some will prefer to have larger armaments to defend with, others increasing the amount of shield generators. The standard for a Dreadnaught however is a reinforced hull, between 4-8ft. thick metal plates, comprised of stacked layers of steel, titaninum and ceramic plates. In the event of a hull breach internal corridors are seeled to prevent loss of life support systems and prevent any additional people being sucked out into space.
Around the Dreadnaughts hull are internal shield generators, which create a large bubble around the hull of the ship. These shield are best suited for large scale ship to ship combat, doing very little to stop small fighters and bombers from getting between the shield and the ship. Outboard turrets and fighter squadrons are then used for defence of the ship, dogfighting and shooting down any hostile fighters that get close.
Additional & auxiliary systems
The most important auxiliary system aboard a Dreadnaught is the nano-repair drones. These drones are sent out to replicate themselves, seeling any breaches to the hull, espically around important areas of the ship, so that manned repairs can be made, realitively safely.
Other important auxiliary systems are equally important, though not as exlusive to cruisers as nano-repair drones, including the Newton Generator and the Arbour. The Newton Generator is humanities artifical gravity generator, using magnetic fields and cosmic magic to create the gravity aboard a ship. Other factions and species have their own version of an artifcial gravity generator, and a Newton Generator may be switched out for a different generator depending on the construction company.
The Arbour is humanities life support, aboard Dreadnaughts this is a large forest in the centre of ship, protected behind bulkheads and reinforced containers, the Arbour works in tandem with a ships oxygen tanks and oxygen recyclling system to maintain an excess in oxygen and other life support.
Hangars & docked vessels
Dreadnaughts are the largest ships in a fleet, being able to dock atleast one Capital class cruiser alongside it, and has moonpool's for up to 4 Light class cruisers. Beyond that a Dreadnaughts hangar bays differ from vessel to vessel, though it is most common to have atleast two hangers, each containing between 6-8 fighter squadrons, comprised of between 7-9 fighters per squad.
