Woodport

Situated on the eastern coast northeast of both Midpoint and Far Seer, Wood Port stands as a vital link in Cruentum’s growing timber trade. Established as the front-line of industry during the northern expansion of the elves, dwarves, and humans, Woodport grew out of necessity—a way to quickly transport lumber south to North Port to supply the insatiable demand of the Vanron-Lurk Shipwrights.

A Town of Timber and Industry

Woodport is a town born from the forest, its very foundation built on the sturdy timbers it harvests. Located at the edge of dense woodland, the settlement hums with activity as lumber crews haul freshly felled logs to the water’s edge. Massive wooden rafts and flat-bottomed barges, laden with neatly stacked timber, drift southward along the currents to North Port, where they fuel the legendary shipyards.

The town itself mirrors its purpose. Buildings are simple, functional, and predominantly wooden—constructed from the same trees that sustain its livelihood. Sawdust fills the air, carried on the wind alongside the rhythmic sound of axes, saws, and hammers. Workshops dot the outskirts of the forest, where sawyers, woodcarvers, and carpenters turn raw logs into beams, planks, and crafted goods.

The Lifeblood of the Forest

The forests surrounding Woodport are vast and ancient, with towering hardwood trees that are prized for their strength and durability—ideal for shipbuilding and construction. Despite the logging industry’s demands, care has been taken, particularly by the Elves, to ensure that the timber trade does not recklessly devastate the landscape. The forest is seen as both a resource and a living entity to be respected. Dwarven engineers have introduced efficient logging methods, minimizing waste and ensuring a steady, sustainable yield.

This balance between industry and preservation has given Woodport a unique identity—where pragmatism meets reverence for the natural world. Shrines to woodland spirits and nature gods can often be found along the edges of logging trails, marked with tokens left by workers seeking safe passage and bountiful harvests.

The Flow of Trade

Woodport operates as a well-oiled machine in Cruentum’s economic engine. Its timber yards, bustling docks, and riverside loading areas are essential to meeting the demands of North Port’s Vanron-Lurk Shipwrights. Each day, dozens of logs are stripped, processed, and lashed together into barges that drift southward on the currents. Small fishing boats and river skiffs travel alongside, ferrying workers and goods between settlements, ensuring the flow of timber never ceases.

Beyond lumber, Woodport has also become a hub for secondary goods. Skilled artisans carve furniture, tools, and decorations, creating additional trade that benefits the growing town. Wagon trains heading west toward Midpoint carry woodcraft and supplies, reinforcing Woodport’s role as a trade crossroads between the coast and inland communities.
