Okon

Basic Information

Anatomy

Okon are delicate and frail looking compared to rest of the species. Their limbs tend to be long and bones slender, and combined with how feathery they are, they're most bird-like in appearance.

Genetics and Reproduction

Okon have similar slow reproduction cycle to Karni, a related species with whom they can also reproduce with. Due to their more magical nature an Okon female can initiate a fertile period at any point they want, though this does take a heavy toll on the mother to be and usually only happens under special, dire survival circumstances. Just like Karni, Okon normally produce two eggs at most, with survival rate of around 45% per egg.

Additional Information

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Okon are common species in Tinnaman, but rarely met outside its borders. A small population lives in Venen, Laventha's capital city.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Okon are often born with magic abilities and out of the two elf species they're the more magical one. These powers vary between individuals but premonition or "sixth sense" is very common. Something akin to empathy, or extreme awareness of the intention and moods of others is also usual. Manipulation of matter or minds can also happen, but it's usually pretty weak. Powers outside these are rare.

Civilization and Culture

Major Organizations

Okon mainly live in Tinnaman, a theocracy. Worship and seeking forgiveness from the seas is Okon originating religion, driven by Okon nobility, who compete for the position of high priest.

Common Myths and Legends

Okons used to have a whole pantheon of gods before the Wrath of Seas happened. After that they have mainly worshipped the god of seas, Maralin. The other gods still exist but their role has turned less important, more subservient to Maralin than actual independent gods. There is a small subset of Okon who still consider a creator deity, the burning bird Okon that their species is named after, to be most important out of all, but in Tinnaman they're considered dangerous heretics so most have fled to safety of Valentha.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Purely physical relationships with other species are pretty common, as long as they're not with Karni. Okon and Karni are compatible species and mixed offspring is generally unwanted.
