Rei

Rei is a noble from Cyaneous Reef, and is currently engaged to Princess Amara Reif, putting him in line for the throne alongside her.

Background

Rei was born to a noble family in Cyaneous Reef, gaining a lot of prestige from that status. But even nobility was never enough for his parents, or him.
At 17, he was entered into an arranged marriage with the water fairy princess. This marriage was an attempt to unite the above and underwater fairies. Rei was very enthusiastic about this marriage. Sure, he grew up in a good position as a noble, but being royal? That was a whole different story.
Upon meeting Coral, his ‘bride’ to be, he realized quickly that she was not as into this as he was. Getting this marriage to run smoothly would be more complicated than he thought. But Rei was willing to do whatever he needed to. He wanted the throne.
Rei would try to shmooze his way into Coral’s heart. He wasn’t interested in this being a marriage full of love and devotion or anything, but he at least wanted to win the ‘princess’ over. They’d be spending the rest of their lives together after all.
One day, Rei would learn that Coral was in a relationship with another. He told her that this was of no issue to him, so long as Coral gave him similar attention. Coral was fine with this, both of them enjoying at least the physical intimacy they could give one another.
On the day of the wedding, things would fall apart. It was revealed that Coral had been having an affair behind his back, something Rei already knew about. But, in front of everyone, Rei pretended that this was the first he'd ever learned of this. He turned to Coral’s parents, aghast that Coral would do this to him! He thought their love was real! How could she… go behind his back like this!? He did a good job turning everyone’s opinion of Coral, and Ezra by extension, sour. Coral ran off, and Rei was allowed to stay. While the wedding obviously didn’t go through, the royal family took pity on him.
After a few years, Rei met Amara, the next heir to the throne. While he was definitely still interested in the throne, and that’s what drove their first interactions, he learned that he actually enjoyed her company.
Over time, the two ended up falling in love and Rei would be the one to propose. And unlike the engagement to Coral, this one was genuine, while still meeting the needs of what the kingdom wanted.

Personality

Rei is very snide and cunning, willing to do anything to get what he wants. He is very driven by his own desires, often selfishly so. What he lacks in charm he makes up for in... manipulation, something he's quite adept at.
These traits of his definitely came out in full force as a teenager, but a certain someone has softened him. While a guy like him won't change overnight, Amara has brought out a more romantic, good-natured side of him. He actually wants to be... better for her?

Appearance

Rei has pale skin with dark blue blemishes, and he has a scar across his nose. His hair is long, dark blue, with a light greyish-blue underside. His eyes are bright blue. His teeth are razor sharp.
He dresses quite formally, often wearing dark blue. His fashion, like the other Water Royals, is inspired by Japanese formal wear.
His wings are in the shape of a manta ray, and have water patterning.
