Coral Cove

Coral is a former Water Royal and current freeloader. She travels around Faetalia with no real goals and no place to stay, mostly interested in hooking up with attractive men and running away from his past.

Personality

Coral is charming and enjoys being at the center of attention. He cares a lot about appearances, and does her best to make sure he's being perceived exactly as he wants himself to be. He tries hard to act like a "Go with the flow, chill surfer dude" type, but it's clear that's not what she's like at all. In reality he's selfish, conceited, and most actions are done for her own personal gain. But he will do his absolute all to convince you she's not like that, and that he's changing and growing as a person.   Coral is a huge flirt and unless you're a good looking man, or a man who takes any interest in her, he probably won't really care to give you the time of day. She'll still be polite and kind and whatever, but he prioritizes the attention of guys over anything, always looking for his next hookup.

Appearance

Coral is slender and lanky, standing at 5'10 in fairy inches. He's got lightly tanned skin and orange eyes. He likes wearing makeup, and will wear colors that match whatever outfit he's wearing. His hair is a teal blue ombre, and has been choppy and short ever since it got unceremoniously cut off. He likes adorning it with cute accessories, the most common being a pink starfish.   Coral dresses like he's ready for the beach with an undone button-up, frilly teal pants, and flip-flops. He likes wearing pearl jewelery and has a few piercings. His ears and his belly button. Coral tries not to look too glamorous, wanting to keep up his whole 'surfer dude' persona, but he can't help that he always has to look pretty.

Background

Coral grew up on the coast of Emerriden Isle as the daughter of the Water Royals, Umiko Cove and Caspian Cove. As the child of affluent parents, Coral was accustomed to having her every whim catered to. Because of this, he ended up being quite uptight and snobby but played off her spoiled rich-kid-ness with his endless charm.   Coral lived a fairly sheltered existence, never experiencing much outside of his life as a royal. Even having everything he could ever want got boring, and she constantly sought something more interesting. Growing up, Coral was captivated by the fairy tales his mother would read to her before bed, particularly those that featured daring princes or knights in shining armor. He would often see himself as the princess locked in the tower, waiting for her own here to come and rescue him from his mundane life. (No matter how misguided this was, considering Coral lived a perfectly well-off existence and was not at all suffering the way most princesses did in these stories.)   At 13, Coral would meet the son of the Fire Fairy royal guards, Ezra Bomberg, and the two would hit it off. Coral would bring shy little Ezra out of his shell, and the two quickly became inseparable. From that moment on, they'd seek each other out at every party, and write letters in their time apart. As their bond grew, feelings blossomed, and the two would start dating at 16.   However, their relationship would face a setback when Coral's parents introduced him to a noble from Cyaneous Reef, Rei, intending for them to get married. Despite Coral's protests, his father was determined to proceed with the arrangement. Nothing he said convinced them. Not even when he told them that he loved someone else. Coral’s mother, Umiko, was more sympathetic to his plight, but ultimately, nothing could change his father’s mind.   Coral stayed with Ezra despite this, never quite being honest with him about what was going on with the whole arranged marriage. He didn't want it to get in between what they had, because he loved Ezra and he didn't love Rei. There was not, and never would be, love between the two of them. Ezra would one day propose to Coral, who said yes, of course, even though the lies and the secrets kept piling up, all ready to come toppling down.   And topple down they did when one day Ezra’s family received an invitation in the mail. An invitation to none other than the royal wedding between Coral and Rei. Coral tried to explain things to Ezra, but when he found out she had been lying to him, his trust was shattered. Their confrontation caused a big scene at the wedding, drawing everyone's attention. Rei caught wind, and soon he was involved too. A messy fight broke out, Rei and Ezra throwing fists, and Coral unable to stop them.   When Lady Umiko and Sir Caspian were alerted of the situation, they were there in an instant, splitting up the fight. Coral tried to explain to them what had happened, but Rei beat her to it with his own little pity party. Now, not only had he broken the trust of Ezra, and Rei, but her parents as well. It was all very unacceptable, especially when so much of being a royal was about image. And here Coral was, tarnishing hers, and by extension, her family’s.   Caspian, her father, told Coral she needed to go. He didn't say where, but just that she needed to 'learn her lesson' and then she could return. Coral, hearing this, had no plans to.   Feeling like she'd been banished, Coral left her hometown and journeyed out to find somewhere else to go. As he wandered with no destination in mind, she considered all the events up until now. But rather than reflecting too deeply, he chalked it up to HIM being the victim in all this.   Deep down, though, Coral definitely carries a huge amount of guilt and remorse, but would just rather ignore and not think about it. Instead, she decides to reinvent himself entirely. Rather than dwell on the past, why not become someone new? Someone no one knows. Someone who would never fall for the trick that was ‘love’ and do anything stupid like that again.

Currently

Coral chooses to adopt a chill, surfer dude-like persona. He’s still charming but does her best to be a lot less uptight and snobby. Rather, he’s “chill, go with the flow, and super duper friendly!” (Though, despite her best efforts, the real Coral definitely shines through at times.) Coral tries to be down to earth, more practical, and selfless and takes everything in stride. Yep. Totally. This is NOT A MASK!!!   It's a good thing that Coral has charm and persuasion on her side because the men he sleeps with eat this shit up. Nobody knows the Coral he used to be, so why would they think he was anything other than what she says she is? And Coral never stays around long enough for them to discover anything else.   Coral spends most of her days wandering from place to place, getting to know the townspeople and then leaving. Any selfish desires, he can always find a selfless man to do for her.   Coral's full of lies about everything. His backstory? Way more tragic than it actually was. "I'm an orphan! My parents drowned, and I washed ashore sopping wet and all alone!" His personality? Who even IS the real Coral? His wants and desires? Why, he just wants whatever YOU want, darling! Whatever will make you like him the most, she'll adapt to it. Easy peasy.   Does Coral want more than this? Of course. Deep down, there is that yearning for what he and Ezra had all those years ago, for something more than a one-night stand. For things to really matter to him. To belong somewhere, with someone, doing something he cares about. All that would be great, but getting that requires EFFORT. It's just too much to put into something that is of no guarantee. What she's doing now. It's easy. It's mindless. It's fun. Coral's okay with this for now.

Trivia

  • Coral's hooked up with hundreds of men.
  • Coral's name when a royal was not Coral, but his deadname. That creates some separation between who he was and who she is now, making him a bit harder to find and recognize.
