The Shining Sea
The Shining Sea is an arm of the Trackless Sea - one of the great seas of Faerûn. It divides the peninsula of Chult from the shores of the Calimshan and the Lake of Steam, is more than a thousand miles long, and hundreds of miles wide. Of all the western waters, the Shining Sea has the most merchant traffic and trade, almost comparable to the Sea of Fallen Stars in the center of Faerûn.
Geography
The sea stretched along the coastline of southwest Faerûn, with the Chultan Peninsula to the south and the shoreline of Calimshan to the north. It was quite large, although it was not as large as the Sea of Swords. The island nation of Tharsult was located in the sea's eastern reaches. In the northeast was a massive enclosed bay known as the Lake of Steam, owing to its high volcanic activity.
Fauna & Flora
The sea was home to aquatic elves, merrow, and sahuagin.
A rare beautiful species of intelligent firebirds dwelt across the Shining Sea, in seclusion, away from prying eyes. These birds were legendary among Chultans for their perfect beauty, but they were also infamous for their horrible shrieks the birds themselves called "singing."
