Tall and lithe these humanoids have a connection to nature that translates to an inclination towards magic and the manipulation of the elements. Elven society has grown to value art, organization and general orderliness. While not all elven towns are located in forest canopies most are.
A slow population growth makes it difficult for elven communities to rebound from any significant loss of population.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities
The classic pointed ears that adorn all elves funnel sound waves to their inner ears. This combined with a wide range of audio sensitivity means that an elf can hear insects walking along the ground with ease.
With their keen eyesight elves are able to easily see with very little light. While it does take time to adapt to a dark environment an elf is able to read in a with light of a single candle some fifty feet away.
A light step and even lighter touch has allowed elven societies to develop both a reputation for incredible stealth and intricate visual art.

History
The ancient elven societies, once differentiated by geographic boundaries, culture and colour, bonded against their mutual enemies, the giants. After almost two millennia of war they managed to push the giants and their glaciers back to the mountains. Thoroughly mixed into one culture the elves settled across Faemonde.
After an elven generations of peace humans, dwarves and gnomes moved out from where they had taken shelter from the war between the elves and giants that had consumed the world. While the gnomes kept to themselves along the coast neither the dwarves nor the humans met with the elves so easily.
The elves ignored the humans as they considered them to pose no threat due to the rougher and less refined nature of the human culture. The dwarves were another matter entirely. As the dwarves ventured beyond their strongholds, exploring and developing industrial centres above the surface of the earth they clashed with the elves.
The elves had no taste for the dwarves or their machinery and industry. The buildings of stone and metal offended their sensibilities and the lack of great respect for the forests raised their fury. Flexing their muscles as the new rulers of the world the elves exerted their military power to prevent the dwarves from expanding their usage of the forests. The dwarves were not ones to be bullied and the resulting conflict was fierce. The enmity that developed between the two races grew to be deep seated. Peace was finally established and sealed with an exchange of weapons called the Armaments of Accord.
The humans, with their diverse natures, had less trouble making peace with the majority of the elves. As thehuman population increased pushing against the elven boarders. Unwilling to enter the same sort of war that they had with the dwarves the elves retreated from the wave of humanity. Some elves objected to so easily giving up their territory to the short lived race and banded together in a political faction bent on forcing the elven leaders to turn against the humans.
The unrest continued for several humangenerations. Over this time the faction of elves determined to push the humans back formed into a rebellion that turned on the humans killing any they deemed to be trespassers.
