Faemonde

Faemonde is a world of towering mountains, sweeping plains, endless seas and vast deserts. Long ago it was ruled by giants who spread their herds of glaciers across the world. Now the giants have disappeared and the glaciers have retreated to the tops of the tallest mountains.   Humans, a prolific race if ever there was one, fill the world and settle wherever they see fit creating all manner of tribes, nations and clans. If they could build any sort of peace between themselves the world would belong to them. The elves, decimated by a civil war several millennia ago, keep to their forests of silverleaf trees. The dwarves do as they have done since the time of the giants and work with stone and metal in underground strongholds and take the fight to every knagder riding goblin tribe that they come across. Gnomes ply the oceans in ships with metal hulls and halflings settle where they can as they have no country to call their own.   Faemonde and all in it is made of five elements (air, water, fire, stone and metal). Magic is the art of working these elements to one's desires; not something to be taken on by the faint of heart or the weak of will. Sorcerers, magicians, mages and shamans work the elements in different ways with different successes. The enmity is high between these groups and any interactions often results in burnt robes, bruised egos or death.
