Character Creation
The campaign begins at first level. The process for character creation is as follows:
1. Roll for Ability Scores
You may choose one of three methods for generating your ability scores. Each method offers a different balance between randomness and control. Select the one that best fits your play style and character concept. Method 1: Classic Chaos Roll 4d6, drop the lowest die, and record the total. Do this six times in order, assigning the results to Strength, Dexterity, Constitution, Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma in that exact sequence. No rearranging is allowed. This method produces higher scores on average but offers no control over where those scores land. Method 2: Balanced Choice Roll 3d6 in order, assigning the results to the six ability scores as they are rolled. You may then swap the positions of any two scores. Finally, add +1 to one ability score of your choice. This method gives you moderate control while still preserving the randomness of rolling. Method 3: Full Control Roll 3d6 six times, then assign the results to your ability scores however you like. This method offers the most flexibility, allowing you to shape your stats around a specific character concept. However, it may result in lower overall scores compared to other tiers. All three methods are valid and balanced for play. Choose the one that best supports the type of character you want to build.2. Choose a Race
Choose from the list of Dwarf, Elf, Human, and Halfling3. Choose a Background
Twenty options are listed, but others are possible. Work with the GM if none of these work for you.4. Choose a Class
There are eight total character classes: Fighter, Thief, Wizard, Priest, Ranger, Knight, Bard, and Barbarian.5. Roll for Hit Points
Hit points equal to one roll of their class's hit points die + their Constitution modifier (minimum 1 at each level)6. Purchase Starting Equipment
7. Determine your reason for exile1st-level characters start with 2d6 x 5 gold pieces to buy gear. You can carry a number of items equal to 10 or your Strength stat, whichever is higher
Your character has been exiled from the realm of Aeritain by Lord Athenry. It is up to you to determine the reason why. The information on this site should help you, but work with the GM to come up with an appropriate reason. Note: if your character serviced a period of indentured servitude then you should also selected an indentured background.
