"I'll do it myself." - Horizon Traveler
The story changes of how, or what the goddess said to the builders, however, one thing never changes.
The story goes like this; her 'most' devoted clergy wished to build her a grand temple and gathered everything necessary for the building. The clergy and builders began to argue about the design of the building. They prayed to the goddess asking for her to break the stalemate; to which, she appeared, looked over the plans, and spoke with the clergy and builders. They waited for her judgement on which design she wanted built. She looked at the place they picked and said "I'll do it myself."
There her grand temple stands.
The temple remains the same pleasantly warm temperature regardless of the time of year. Harsh winds turn into gentle breezes that flow through the building. The babble of the crowd is akin to a babbling river as even the most weary traveler could nap undisturbed.
No people make their home here, however, many have called it so. The temple receives many visitors and regular worship from people of all types. This is one of the many temples that the Wayfarers are required to visit as it is a temple made by the goddess.
Pillows and rugs covers the floor with planks of solid wood are used for tables. Food and water is offered to travelers, and worshipers for no charge. The pillows and rugs never seem to fade, or un-fluff. It has been noted that the pillows and rugs come from many different cultures, including unrecorded.
The tapestries are affixed to the support rafters and drape to the floor. Most of the depictions on the tapestries are sunrises and sets with a single sun. There have been tapestries found with more than one sun, even depictions of moons along side the sun.
The strangeness of undocumented cultures, multiple suns and moons have attracted the attention of the Dark Mistress's Stargazers, Moon Magu's Watchers and Scholar's Keepers. They stay in local shrines to their respective deities and come to the Sun's Rest to document the strange.
Surrounding the temple are white circular stones that when knelt upon raise skyward. The stone stops below the cloud-line allowing the worshiper a view of the sun and surrounding area. The other stones never seem to get in the way of each other and have only been observed to move up, or down.
No matter the amount of people that enter the building, it never seems to be crowded. People have noticed that the time to walk the interior changes. People are able to pull a tapestry to the side to walk through and it is frowned upon by some of the clergy. The tapestry blocks out all weather and never soils when they are serving as walls.
The bead walls have a variety of beads and the arrangement of beads have been observed to change by the goddess's hands, or the beads themselves. She has replaced and rearranged the tapestry walls. The tapestries drape from the support beams down to the floor and they are cared for by the clergy in her absence.
The purpose for the bead walls have been debated by everyone including the her own clergy. Scribes from the Dark Mistress, Moon Magu, and Knowing Lord are frequently at the temple observing and recording there arrangements as well as other strange occurrences.
Long open air building, bead walls stretch down the length, the sun facing walls are open, tapestries depicting sunrises and sets serve as the north & south walls. The ceiling has revealed wooden arches and flooring is worn planks of wood, while the roof rests upon columns made of white stone. Circular white stones surround the building.
You have mentioned that the goddess made the temple herself, but is there a regular clergy that maintains the place or handles regular prayers throughout the day / week / year? Does the Horizon Traveler appear there regularly in divine or avatar form? If so, are people aware of whom they meet? Does she offer assistance outright, or is her style more subtle? I like the open-air temple idea, but the tapestries on the north and south walls seem a bit odd, if they're backed by a beaded wall, as they would obstruct much of the lighting or airflow and wouldn't have much of a firm backing to hold them. Furthermore, how are they affixed to the wall?
Regular clergy maintains it and I'm still working out more details for each deity's clergy. Those second paragraph question I think should go on her article. The tapestries are the walls.....abit handwaving magic. They hang down from support beams, and block all the weather outside just as a normal wall would.
Excellent. Hand-Wavey is perfectly fine, as long as you think of it before readers/players.
