Karam

In alleys worn by time and tread,

Where broken dreams and hopes are spread,

The roofs are thin, the nights are cold,

And silence tells what can’t be told.

~unnamed poet, Hadibi's, 242 AC

The largest district in Shal’Azura spans the entire northern area of the airborne city. While true poverty is unknown in the Third City, a disparity remains between the wealthy elite and those less fortunate. Many of the latter reside in Karam.
Karam

The district of Karam is a bustling hub of activity, with tall buildings made of gleaming metal and glass towering over the bustling streets. But as one looks closer, cracks and signs of wear can be seen in some of the buildings, showing signs of a slightly neglected area. The sound of people talking and children playing mixes with the noise of carriages and hovercrafts zooming by on the busy streets. There is also the distant buzz of machinery and factories that keep the city running. The air is filled with the scent of smoke from chimneys and roasting meats from street vendors. Mixed in is also the occasional whiff of sewage and garbage, a reminder of the crowded living conditions.     Founder’s Square is the core of Karam, and even with its central position and the crowds that gather there, it exudes an unusual tranquility or calmness. This peculiar feeling stems from a square, relatively small structure built from black and silver marble—the temple dedicated to the Duskmaven, the Matron of Ravens. On the city's northern outskirts, the presence of small orchards, parks, and groves imparts a more rural atmosphere to the otherwise lively area. In one of these groves there is a small shrine to the Wild Mother.
