"The seeds of progress, or our own violent destruction of course." -Focht, Obadiah. The Magic in our Machine. San Reign, Scholar's Guild, 967 LA.
The plethora of issues currently wracking the country couldn't be counted on the fingers of every hand in the Capital, and issues prevalent as they are have lead the just as numerous population to arrive at a great many solutions to these problems. The essence of creation itself lies in the interplay of magick and science, two forces that define the world of Everwealth yet often finding themselves at odds. Magick, believed to be the very root of existence, animates every fabric of reality, while science represents the methodical pursuit of understanding these mechanisms and manipulating them for our needs. Despite millennia of study, both remain fields of profound mystery in-no-small-part due to the Schism, however granting them even greater potential though hampered as much by a fearful society's societal constraints as by the sheer scope of their destructive reach. Even now, in this fractured age, the clever, the gifted, and the studious find ways to apply their knowledge to overcome life’s challenges. When faced with starvation during a relentless drought, a seasoned Minotauri farmer might employ ingenious irrigation techniques learned from a friend, ensuring his family can survive the dry season. Alternatively, a cackling Gnomish wizard might use magick to expand the town’s harvest, producing carrots so massive they could double as canoes, enough to feed every hungry soul, at least for long enough to get paid and skip town before the spell wears off. Magick and science, for all their flaws, remain useful tools to solve problems, though their impact is ultimately determined by the hands wielding them; Both disciplines have their darker shadows, the atrocities they are responsible for ingrained into our collective subconscious forever more, too ghastly to forget. Where science gave birth to weapons of staggering destruction, magick too has been misused to subjugate and exploit those without. Each discipline holds the promise of salvation and the threat of annihilation, their balance a precarious one that has decided our every circumstance throughout all-of history, one man's creation inspiring another's, and another's until their invention coalesce into an amalgamation of spells and machines that spelled the death of millions.
Author Annotation: Word from the wise, answer not any of The Fae: which asks you if they "may have your name?" At least not honestly. It may seem little more than a polite question, but heed my words, your answer is worth much more than seeming standoffish or deceitful.
