Vikrum Ilyan

Background and Role in Our Story

Vikrum Ilyan was born in 647VD the son of a single mother, a hardworking washer-woman whose husband had died in an accident at the Noverium docks. A quick-witted boy, Vikrum and his other siblings were made to work in the wash-house from an early age. When he was able, Vikrum talked at length with the clients of the wash-house and read whenever he could. He dreamed of supporting his family and eventually opened his own washing business, undercutting the rest of the market through clever deals and eventually diversifying into a larger mercantile business of textiles and clothing. Before too long, Vikrum ran one of the fastest growing and best trading businesses in all of Viseria, his mother never had to work again.   In 671VD, whilst on a business trip in Illuven, Vikrum met and fell in love with his future wife, Saryll. Saryll's family's doubts of Vikrum were somewhat mollified by his wealth and Saryll fell in love with him for his intelligence, kindness and beautiful eyes. Before too long the pair were married and had given birth to a beautiful baby girl Lobelia Ilyan. They spent most of their time in Noverium, though Vikrum had to travel all over Viseria to attend to his vast business.   Tragically, in 683VD, Vikrum's wife passed away from a cruel disease. He and his daughter journeyed to Illuven, in order to bury Saryll in the land of her ancestors. On the return journey, all the while trying to be brave for Lobelia, the father and daughter stopped at Qarton. The next morning, Vikrum woke up to find his daughter gone. Gripped by panic and the wrenching soulless fear of losing all that he held dear in the world, Vikrum searched in vain for his daughter, learning that villagers in Qarton had been going missing in the night. Then, salvation seemed to appear in the form of the bonk squad, whose assistance he begged for in finding his daughter, promising a large reward. After days of worry, the bonk squad returned Lobelia to him, for which he was eternally grateful.   Having to head to Thrantium anyway and wanting protection on the road, Vikrum decided to accompany the bonk squad on their journey. While staying in Thrantium, he, Legate Biri, Lobelia and Tittle were kidnapped by the Four Fingers as hostages to get the bonk squad to leave town. In fact, the Four Fingers had been taken over by one of the disguised Satyrs that had kidnapped Lobelia before. The bonk squad once again rushed to his rescue and he began the road to recovery from losing a finger in the kidnapping.   After surviving the fey siege-stone attack on Thrantium thanks to the bonk squad's intervention, Vikrum headed home to Noverium with Lobelia and Legate Biri. He thanked the bonk squad heartily and invited his dear friends to visit him in Noverium anytime.
