Longdale

Longdale sits at the Western End of the Duchy of Rymar. Primarily a Town of Trappers and Traders Longdale is in the foothills with a clear view of the Everdale Mountains. It is a rallying point for Both Human and Elven forces and is a good place to hire a Guide to take you into the Elven Kingdom of Rya Nalore. The Population is approximately 1354 residents here.  
  Longdale is part of the Duchy of Rymar and is Ruled by Baron Radwulf his Family has ruled Longdale for 3 generations. Much of Radwulfs family live within the walls of Longdale Castle some in private estates within the castle walls.

70% Human 10% Half-Elf 15% Halfling and 5% Elf.

Government

Longdale is Ruled as a corporatocracy with a Feudal Monarch primarily as the figurehead overseeing a Council of Lords and Guild Leaders many with Noble titles of their own rights. The Lord is in charge of Protection and Defense while the City Council and Guild Members Meet and handle day-to-day affairs regarding the community. Disputes and Disagreements can be appealed to the Figurehead Lord of Longdale but, in reality, much of the power is held by the Council of Lords. Taxation is collected Bi-Anually and the landowners and Serfs outside the city proper report Bi-Annually into town paying their taxes in a smaller portion of coin and about 45% of the crops.

Three Windmills, Armorer & Smith, Livery & Outriders station, a Man-made fishery pond, wood & stone bridges, 3 Inns, 3 Taverns, a Stone Quarry, a Copper Mine, a Lumber mill, a Prison Tower, a Fountain, 3 Community Pavillions, a Leather Tannery, Bowyer, Tinsmith, Silversmith, Jeweler, 2 Tailorshops, a Printer & book bindry.

Districts

Longdale Consists of Five Districts.  
  • Longdale Castle. Sits Prominently on a rocky rise surrounded by a man-made mote and pond taking waters from Enlam's beck. The Castle houses the City ruler his Garrison and several Extended Family estates.
  • Three Hills District. Just south of the Castle Gates all the land and homes between the Longdale Prison Tower Hill, the Chapel Hill, and Cemetary Artisan Hill are considered part of the Three Hills District.
  • Eastglen District. Everything East of the Longdale prison Tower and Chapele Hill out into the country is considered part of the Eastglen District including the upper-class homes on Lord's Hill.
  • Oxcart Grove. It is aptly named because for centuries this has been a seasonal Migratory campsite for Halfling Nomadic tribes that travers the Plains and hills north of Longdale. Some halflings have now set up permanent residence here including the Mason Shanties, the Stone Quarry Mine Under Lords Hill, and the Two Windmills northeast of the town.
  • Western Swards. Is all the Farmland and Undevloped lands West and Northwest of Enlam's Beck and the Longdale Castle Mote once you cross either of the western Bridges of Enlam's Beck you are in the Wester Swards.

Architecture

Most of the Inner city is older Established homes of Stone and Timber while many of the structures outside are built primarily of Timber. Most of the buildings are built in a Tudor style with the bottom structures being made of stone and the upper structures of Timber and whitewashed plaster or mud coating. Only the most affluent structures are made of complete stone. Rooftops are either Blue Thin Shale Tiles or Wooden Shakes the farm homes are typically Field stone with Rush or Heather Thatched Roofs.

Geography

Longdale is situated around a mix of grassland and some advantageous Hilltops. Castle Longdale started as a Motte and Baily on the most pronounced Hilltop near Enlam's Beck more or less a shallow creek that can get dry at points during the summer. The Motte and Baily eventually became a Castle Proper after Quarrymen folded the old stone quarry to build the castle and move the quarry yard east and under Lord's Hill. Surrounding Longdale a Vast Fertile grasslands and the occasions hill formations.

Climate

Longdale is a Continental bound city with Cold but tolerable winters, Typically Mild Springs and Falls, and Warm to Hot Summers.
