The Hanging Tree
The Hanging Tree is a massive baobab tree that has been used for thousands of years to hang pirates. It is located on the edge of the Ulaan River between Rangaro and Lainland, just west of Dragon's Tooth. It is forever haunted by the deathless spirit Yalandlara, who occasionally causes the tree to attack Imperial agents if they get too close to one of it's hundreds of empty nooses. The area around the tree is surrounded by dead saplings which turn into full trees and produce cold mist when Yalandlara reveals themself to prospective allies. Any treasure that is buried near the tree will eventually be pulled inside of it, and pirates can bargain for their treasure back through the trade of stolen goods. Some pirates worship the tree as a sort of death god and leave secret offerings for it's guardian spirit. Some ship animuses consider the tree one of them and encourage their captains to pay their respects.
