Jade Regent is a member of the Thousand Blades tasked with defending the head of the Empire. She has devoted herself to that position with such zeal that she is known as an extremist even among other Blades. She is the 102nd incarnation of Jade Regent.

Jade Regent has the Black Hound warpaint permanently tattooed into her face.
Special abilities
The sword Jade Regent gives it's master the ability to influence the thoughts and attitudes of nobility. This is not true thought control, rather like a hypnotic suggestion that makes the words of the samurai's own master more favorable to those the samurai considers of noble blood. This influence is often subtle and rarely noticed, even by masters of divination magic. However, Jade Regent can assert more aggressive control if need be, though this influence is damaging to the target's mind.
Apparel & Accessories
Like all Blades, Jade Regent most often wears the uniform of the organization, a black silk shirt cut with a red sash bearing the golden dragon of the Empire. When off-duty, she favors a colorful wardrobe of dresses and wraps inherited from the last Jade Regent, an Ifrit from the Sunbound Isles.
Specialized Equipment
The sword Jade Regent is a standard Blades katana, with the ability to transform into a tiger fork or a chakram. She wears ō-yoroi armor enchanted to be resistant to damage and carries a variety of magic potions in an extradimensional bag, and accessorizes with a variety of enchanted jewelry, most often a pair of earrings that make her more physically attractive to those who behold her or a tiara that grants the power of minor teleportation.

Personal history
Jathal was born to Braithstrom parents among the last holdouts in what is now called the Seven Lords islands. After a band of Olona working with Skaldor destroyed her village, she and the other children were adopted by the Black Hound clan and raised as Orcs. Shortly after completing her Tragth Nogult, or coming of age ceremony, she enlisted with the fledgling Empire's first Elvish Legion after being denied service with the Orcish Legions. She distinguished herself during the Dragon Wars, personally slaying the black dragon Gyrthex Sharksbane and taking it's skull as a gift for Emperor Skaldor. Before her service ended, she was chosen by the Blade Custodian to bear the Blade Jade Regent and has served as the Emperor's guard ever since. Following the death of Skaldor, she was one of the Blades that chose to side with Queen Birgit and the Red Dragon Empire during the period of civil war known as the Broken Realm.
Sexuality
The current Jade Regent is exclusively attracted to women, as has every incarnation of Jade Regent before her. The sword itself is one of the only Blades known to prefer it's host has a specific sexual preference.
Education
Though not formally educated, Jade Regent has accumulated more than fourteen hundred years of knowledge. Able to listen in on the Emperor's private councils, she has gained an impressive understanding of politics, economics, infrastructure, and military theory.
Failures & Embarrassments
Jathal has never forgiven herself for the deaths of Skaldor or Birgit. She has since been nearly inseparable from the Emperor to the point of being sent away with relative frequency, during which time she is known to panic and enter a deep meditation within the Blade.

Jade Regent is entirely devoted to the throne, and believes sincerely that any action taken on behalf of the Emperor is the correct action.

The current incarnation of Jade Regent is one of the best of the King's guard at sensing danger, to the extent that members of the court believe it to be one of her Blade powers. She is a gifted linguist and an expert at moving silently, even in heavy armor. However, she is terrible at interacting with non-Olona to the point of it being a popular topic among court gossips, even fourteen hundred years later.
Likes & Dislikes
Jade Regent has a fascination with jewelry and colorful clothing, especially magical items of that sort. She regularly spends her entire stipend on such things and does not shy away from encouraging gifts. Beyond this, she is a regular participant in Olona sports whenever the opportunity arises, which is admittedly rare in the capital.
The most surefire way to earn her displeasure is to remind Jade Regent that she is an Elf. Legend has it that a Langite ambassador once greeted her in Stromgun to be friendly, and the resulting incident nearly led to war with the Confederacy.

Contacts & Relations
While she has been separated from her clan for a millennium, Jade Regent maintains frequent contact with the Black Hound. Whenever she takes a rare leave of absence, it is to visit her childhood home. She is considered to be a member of the Black Hound still, and there has been debate among various generations of clan elders on whether or not the sword itself needs to be adopted because she basically married it by Olona standards.
Religious Views
The current incarnation of Jade Regent has maintained a belief in traditional Olona superstitions, such as the divine luck. She pays tribute to The Guardian, but does not elaborate on the extent of her faith or her reasons for choosing him over the other Fifteen.
Social Aptitude
Despite being so close to Imperial meetings and international diplomacy for so long, Jade Regent is astonishingly bad with dealing with anyone that isn't an Orc. It took her 400 years of service to stop baring her teeth at visiting dignitaries, and other "bad habits" have yet to disappear.

Jade Regent has made no significant investments in the last thousand years, save for a sizeable collection of magical jewelry. A majority of her funds goes towards maintaining a small private staff, made up almost entirely of Black Hound Olona.
