Fable's Ending

A magic greatsword perhaps better known to the other realms as Excalibur, Fable's Ending is one of the most powerful weapons in the history of Lancaster, and is the symbol of power that grants its monarchs the right to rule. The blade is made of moonsilver and the blood of the Fairy Lords, and the weapon is inscribed with an enchantment that binds the realms of the Fae to the nobility of Lancaster.

Powers and Abilities

Fable's Ending changes it's shape and weight to match the physical prowess of it's wielder. To those it does not deem worthy, it becomes so heavy as to be unliftable. To this end, those entrusted with the care of Fable's Ending can plant it somewhere with the knowledge that only the rightful ruler of Lancaster may ever take up the sacred fey-blade. The powers it bestows upon it's chosen champion vary. It is unknown whether the powers of the sword change with some trait of the champion or if it simply grants abilities as needed to preserve the realm.

Portal

The most commonly bestowed ability is called Portal. The chosen champion may use the sword to cut through reality itself to open a doorway into the realms of the Fae and back again. Legend holds that it was this sword that opened the paths from Faerie into Illiria that the first Tegdylun walked through. Portal has also been used offensively, such as in the Sylvan War when Queen Vivian Silverlight used Portal to trap an army of Gemloki in the Realm of Stone Dreams, or in the Battle for the Moon when King Galvan Silverlight opened a path for fey creatures to bolster his army, banishing a horde of frost giants to another time.

Guardian Heraldry

Fable's Ending has granted any number of animalistic powers upon it's champion, most of which are altered depending on the monarch's current company. During the Siege of Highcastle, Guardian Heraldry caused the the banners of Silverlight, Grimm, and Inser to life, sending dozens of lions, dogs, and stags to the frontlines. This power has been known to grant shapeshifting to those the monarch favors or upon the monarch themselves. Queen Theodora's mount Regal is said to have been conjured forth from a Silverlight coat of arms.

Command

The sword has on occasion given it's chosen champion the ability of supernatural influence over their subjects. This power has been used only once, by King Sylvester Silverlight to bind one of the mountain clans, creating forever House Hyeung.

The Broken Bond

Fable's Ending is the literal embodiment of the agreement between the Fairy Lords and the Tegdylun. The sword can be used to release both parties from the enchantment in exchange for one final power piece of magic: the summoning of the Lords of the Fae themselves into the mortal plane for one final favor. Doing this will destroy Fable's Ending and possibly ruin Lancaster forever.
