Arthur Bright III
Lord Arthur Terrance Bright, III
Arthur Bright is the current ruler of Bellflame and the head of House Bright. Though not a true fighter himself, he dabbles in arena combat and is well known to sponsor promising young gladiators in hopes of encouraging future greatness. He is engaged to be wed to Ygritte of House Tilgen. Aside from the Emperor, Arthur Bright III may be the single wealthiest man on the continent. As the Lord of Bellflame, he is the current Warden of the West and charged with defending Lancaster from potential Dwarvish threats. In his capacity as Warden he has the personal loyalty of several lesser Houses outside of those sworn to Bright, including House McGowan and House Wyldhart. He took his place as Lord in the year 1424 with the unexpected death of his father, which was when he discovered his bethrothal that had been arranged while he was at the University.
Mental characteristics
Education
Lord Arthur was not satisfied with his hired tutors, so when he came of age he entered the University as a student. He graduated with merits in general academia, economics, mathematics, horticulture, and architecture. Notably, he did not accept his earned Scholarships in academia and economics, citing that his duties to Bellflame precluded his membership in a guild, but he does sponsor several University programs for student expenses.
Personality Characteristics
Motivation
To improve the standing of House Bright, to improve Bellflame and help the people living there, to spread joy and good in the world
Social
Family Ties
Lord Arthur is bound by blood to houses Graves and Redwall, and his engagement to a daughter of House Tilgen puts him in a solid position with family connections throughout Lancaster. Arthur is not shy about visiting his relatives or showering their children with gifts, and as such he is well-loved. Even his most distant relations can expect to receive personalized, thoughtful letters from Arthur on a regular basis.
Religious Views
Lord Arthur is a seeker of knowledge, a builder, and a family man. He alone practices a unique trinary religion, an equal partnership of Eldreon, Tilanos, and The Guardian. He lights sacred candles to them each day and throws lavish festivals in their honor on their holy days. While Arthur pays lip service to the other gods, even maintaining small shrines to them in his home for his guests, he privately believes that there is little point in showering each god with attention when one's primary deity is meant to determine which afterlife one ends up in.
Because of his strong faith in The Guardian and Tilanos, he devotes a significant portion of his private fortune to improving Bellflame, paying to strengthen and maintain homes, building public works, and adding features of convenience to every public building. His love of knowledge and worship of Eldreon has inspired him to construct a school and public library just beside his personal home.
Hobbies & Pets
When not reading or hunting the latest books, Lord Arthur practices his calligraphy. The walls of his study are framed with his favorite examples of his own penmanship, and he takes a lot of time to lovingly craft each letter he writes for his friends and family. He has an extensive collection of interesting pens, rare inks, and magical paper.
Speech
Lord Arthur considers himself to be a proper man. He is well spoken and verbose, but does not use language he thinks others may find confusing. He does not swear, even when angry, and is sure to be as polite as possible to all he meets.
Wealth & Financial state
Lord Arthur's merit in economics was put to good use when he inherited Bellflame. By investing his father's meagre fortune into risky ventures, he was able to nearly triple his family's wealth and make steady improvements to Bellflame as a city. He owns a personal stake in many breweries across the Empire as a hobby and is the driving force for the building of airfields and train lines across the mountainous country.
