Stone Weald

The Stone Weald was the remains of a large city that was reclaimed by the Everwood.   Whether the city existed before the Everwood or if some civilization tried to carve out the city within the wood is unknown. What is known is that at some point the forest took back the city. What happened to the people who lived within is something of a mystery. There are no official records kept by any of the communities within distance of the Weald and what few journals or tomes that were intact and found within the city do not portend any great calamity. The forest just took back the city.
There are those longer lived persons who often claim to have inhabited the city or had seen the city in it's glory days, but these claims are spurious and hold little verifiable truth. Much like the forest itself, the city holds no answers as to it's true history.   Since it was reclaimed by the forest the Weald has become a bit of a ruin that treasure hunters have taken to trying to plunder and a haven for some brave few who want to find shelter, but these small gatherings of settlers seldom last very long. Rumours abound of ghosts that occupy the ruins or other strange, supernatural occurrences that defy explanation. All such rumours and tales seems to coincide with the strange, fearful ramblings from those who dared tried to make part of the city their home. It is said that the deeper one goes into the city, the more danger they put their lives in. Even the wildlife avoids the heart of the Weald.   Where most cities reclaimed by nature eventually are little more than stone ruins, the construction of the city itself was of a quality and nature that most of the stonework still stands even if the more artistic aspects of the city have faded or collapsed. Wood used in construction had long since rotten away and anything else of value has either been lost or scavenged. As such while some buildings still stand with walls and larger buildings are more or less complete, some haver crumbling rooftops, empty doorways, and missing windows. The city is also covered in thick foliage here and there with some areas of the city practically unable to be traversed by normal means. Trees have sprouted up through buildings and along the cobblestone streets. Moss covers walls. Vines creep up the sides of buildings.

I really like the way you wrote this article - great descriptions, very vivid. I do like a bit of mystery as well. Well done.

o_o; Thanks! It's still early work and I feel I have a lot to do with fleshing it out, but I wanted to get the basics and general feel down.
