Emerald armored anaconda

In the heart of Damus, many ancient creatures live, which appear unchanged since the time of creation. One of these is the Emerald armored anaconda.

This giant snake usually lives near water. It spends most of its time resting, only going to hunt every few weeks. When its sleeping, digesting or resting, it will not attack until disturbed. However, when looking for food, it will attack everything that moves on its path.
Its nests once a year. It lays the eggs in the loose soil along the river or lake shore, up to thirty at a time. The eggs are only 10 cm in diameter. It does not guard the nest, so often no offspring survives. Crocodiles, leopards, pot-bellied boars, other wild animals and the Beastman* all like to eat the eggs. This is why the giant reptile did not multiply much more on the continent.
The giant snake's body covered with dull green, hard scales, hence its name. Its sense of smell and vision are sharp, and it can sense the temperature of the environment. Despite its size, the Emerald armored anaconda is a quiet hunter. The prey often only notices its presence, when its too late. It has no poison, but easily crush a heavy armor or break an elephant's spine.
In ancient times, the Elves often used these anacondas to guard sacred places. After the Surta elves extinct on the continent, this tradition also came to an end. The druids, Bena elves and Beastman of Damus speak a lost temple, its ruins located somewhere on the Heartland, and that this ancient place is guarded by a greatest anaconda of the jungle, which both the Segaii and the Greendragons call as Sharamph, the Old One.

I like how you balanced its long life-span with the likelihood its eggs will be eaten to create a balanced population.

Check out Natural Magic : a coming of age fantasy novel, because life is hard enough when you're fourteen, even without saving the world. Or listen to it in podcast form .

Thank You! I use a handy table format when buliding up fauna, so I mostly handling predators carefully. They can mess up the biodiversity easily.
