City of the Sapphire Flame

Hwatun, also called the City of the Sapphire Flame or Sapphire Flame in shortform adjoins the Whisperfall Forest and surrounds the Flamnonia Academy.

Demographics

Hwatun is inhabited by members of all humanoid and beastfolk species. Most of the inhabitants are the so-called Hwatin, which are all or nearly all dragonknights and dragonguards or have some kind of education from Flamnonia Academy. Comparatively, only a few inhabitants don't have training from Flamnonia but occupy professions like blacksmith, medic, or ceramist that provide the goods needed to live a comfortable life. Those trained to be dragonguards watch over the city in general and guard important buildings.

Infrastructure

Hwatun has paved, cobbled, and dirt roads, depending on the district, that are generally wide enough for two small carts to pass each other. The smaller, crowded side paths and streets within the craftsman's and smugglers' district can be hard to navigate without local knowledge.
Most districts, except the training camp, the research laboratories, and the university district, can be reached and accessed directly from the agora in the town's center.

University district

The university district mainly consists of the Flamnonia Academy alongside some primary educational institutions. Those institutions teach common knowledge like writing, basic math operations, conversational skills, and practical skills like cooking or sewing.

Training camps

The training camps adjoin the university district and are built to provide a training space outside of the academy grounds. The area is divided into multiple sections, each dedicated to a specific athletic, magic, or survival discipline.

Research Laboratories

The research laboratories adjoin the university district right beside the entry to the Flamnonia Hospital in the outer wall of Flamnonia. Although it consists of multiple scientific disciplines it is mainly dedicated to the research of treatments for the elemental burn.

Historic District

The historical district adjoins the university district at the front gate of Flamnonia Academy. The neighborhood is filled with the first houses, taverns, and stores built outside the academy's walls. The buildings are well maintained and haven't changed their appearance since they were created.

Ancient Agora

The ancient agora was present even before Flamnonia was built. It was a local trading hub where people of the surrounding homesteads and small villages could travel to, buy goods and sell their products. The marketplace is still a trading hub where traveling merchants, farmers, and artisans can offer their products. Occasionally the place is used as a festival fair.

Leisure District

The leisure district extends around the marketplace and consists primarily of parks and honorific statues. It was built to form a barrier between the agora and the surrounding neighborhoods and acts as a social area where inhabitants and visitors can meet and relax.

Garden District

The garden district adjoins the leisure district to the west. It consists of three areas:

• Houses with sprawling backyards either filled with aesthetical plants or used for crop gardens.
• Homesteads with small vegetable and herb gardens and livestock.
• Farmsteads with large pastures and crop fields.

Craftsman's district

The craftsman's district adjoins the garden district to the south and extends to the southern edge of the leisure district. It consists of a collection of workshops in which various products get crafted. This is the place to go if someone needs a one-of-a-kind sword or custom-made furniture.

Smugglers' district

The so-called smugglers' district adjoins the training camp to the south and the leisure district to the east. It isn't necessarily named after particular high illegal or smuggler activities but rather after the ability of the inhabitants to "smuggle" letters, other items, and persons inconspicuously into places determined in advance. The people living here are great protectors that are primarily contracted for challenging missions, often in connection with influential personalities and celebrities.

Riverfront homes and stores

The riverfront homes and stores adjoin the smugglers' district to the south, the craftsman's district to the east, and extends to the southern edge of the leisure district - the southeastern district border adjoins a small river. The community consists of small standalone houses with small garden areas and small stores that sell luxury items like jewelry and fine clothing.
