In 2105 PV, multiple reports of demon lords, archdevils and other planar beings surfaced in multiple territories. Soon these entities were controlling or laying waste where they appeared. Battles waged on in every corner of the
Anazar continent for several years. The parallels to the
Second Planar War were soon realized.
While it lasted decades and cost significant lives, the war was the shortest of all the previous planar wars. Most attribute this to the combining of forces and cooperation between the nations, others say it was a result of having more advanced magic and technology to deal with the threat.
The Conflict
Prelude
The first documented appearance of a planar being attributed to this war was that of a demon lord in a village of the Grimbalt Consortium. Subsequent reports of genies, archdevils, and giants enslaving or destroying hamlets are dated only days later on other sides of the continent. It would be days or even weeks before this news would reach the nations leaders, even then most had assumed it was the result of a small cult or even the beginnings of a war with their neighbor.
Soon after the leaders of the nations discovered they were not alone with their problems, either when reaching out for potential allies after attempting to regain control or sending diplomatic envoys in an attempt to prevent a war from starting. Scholars and mages quickly pieced together
The initial appearances of planar beings led to either enslavement or destruction, depending on the temperament of the monster for each area in question. Many of the nations armies were significantly weakened and lost several towns and hamlets to the planar forces. Cities were for the most part able to repel the attackers, but the marks of such battles can still be seen in some.
Eventually with the
Treaty of Coalitions in place and signed by all the major factions, the
Azure Regiment was formed specifically to deal with the extraplanar threat. This newly combined force, cooperation between factions, and accepted leadership led to quickest victory of any previous planar war.Both the treaty and the regiment formed from it are in full effect and have even been expanded upon. The result of open borders has led to booming trade and even sharing of technology.
Ruins of the destroyed towns became ripe for looting, but most nations put a stop to this as they rebuilt settlements and farms. Most of these locations have had any objects of value "recovered" in one way or another.
Historical Significance
This conflict marks the first and only use of Gnomish
Boom Powder for militaristic purposes. Notably leading to the invention of the
Cannon.
