Seat of government for the Demesne of Arnak and southernmost true city in the Empire.

Governor Imemptons (M)
  • Noble, Human, Neutral Good
  • Unforgivable relationship with Felben Timbers. Imemptons son was deathly ill, and the governor took him to Felben for healing, but Felben refused, resulting in the boy's death.
  • Likes: Differing Religious Beliefs, governing a diverse city, Imemeptons has grown to appreciate and respect differing religious opinions.
  • Dislikes: Optimism, Past traumas in his life have left the governor with little in common with optimists.
  • Goal: Imemptons ratted out a family member in his home town which earned him his promotion, but also resulted in his disownment. While he would never admit it, he wants to reconnect to the only family he has left.

Librarian Cremia Yeslana (F)
  • Scribe, Elf, Neutral Good
  • Forgotten Relationship with Tatisu. Tatisu recovered stolen tomes for Cremia several years ago. At one point she was thankful and friendly, but has since forgotten.
  • Likes: Charity, While the Institute is funded by the Order of Eyes, it depends on the charity of wealthy donors to continue to expand its book collection.
  • Dislikes: Poor Dressers, Past experience has shown Cremia that poorly dressed individuals are likely to be thieves.
  • Goal: Cremia wants to preserve the ancient tomes in her collection. Multiple individuals have tried to steal or destroy them in the past.

Felben Timbers, Oracle of the Woods (M)
  • Druid, Gnome, Lawful Good (level 8)
  • Forgotten Relationship with Bylmyl. Bylmyl opposed Felben's addition
  • Likes: Planners, Felben appreciates orderly growth, like in a well tended forest.
  • Dislikes: Intimidation, Felben's connection to nature means he values truth over fear.
  • Goal: Make the world a better place for his children. Felben was forced to relocate to Arnak when his forest was destroyed in orc attacks, and is trying to rebuild with his new family.

Bylmyl Axebreaker. Lightguard Sergeant (F)
  • Ranger, Dwarf, Neutral (level 7)
  • Good Relationship with Cremia. While on opposite sides of the debate between Divine and Arcane power, Cremia has always been honest and honorable with Bylmyl, which he respects.
  • Likes: Traveling, While Bylmyl is loyal to his found home and guild, he still loves to see the world.
  • Dislikes: Liars, Bylmyl cannot abide dishonesty of any kind.
  • Goal: My city and nation are all that matter. Bylmyl left his home in the hills and found a new family in the Lightguard, which he considers his new family.

Utmont, the Lightguard Lieutenant (M)
  • Monk, Human, Evil (level 10)
  • In debt to Venna. Utmont forced her to make a potion for him to improve his skills so he could earn his current position. Now he owns her more than just a favor.
  • Likes: Humans, Utmont firmly believes humans are and should be the dominant race.
  • Dislikes: Elves, Utmont is convinced that the elves guard secret knowledge which could be used to benefit the Empire.
  • Goal: The path to Power and Dominion is through knowledge. If Utmont can learn enough, he believes he could gain control of the full Lightguard and raise them to dominance in the Empire.

Venna Mola-Kamina (F)
  • Alchemist, Goliath, Lawful Evil
  • Unfavorable relationship with Othrol. Venna poisoned the previous governor because he opposed her taking a seat on the council. Othrol managed to get the governor to a healer in time, and Venna believes his actions were a direct setback to her own rise in power.
  • Likes: Confidence, Venna is a self-confident person, and respects that in others.
  • Dislikes: Monstrous Races, Venna resents the local monstrous races because their presence creates a stigma against herself which she feels she has had to fight to overcome.
  • Goal: Venna is very greedy, and is willing to take great risks for gold.

Othrol the Tavern Keeper (M)
  • Brewer, Half-Orc, Lawful Neutral
  • In debt to Cremia. Because he is illiterate, she has read myths and histories to him that concern his personal goal.
  • Likes: Optimism, Despite his own hardships, Othrol tries to look on the bright side of things, and values others who do the same.
  • Dislikes: Magic Users, Othrol suspects can't confirm Venna tried to poison the previous governor, which has caused him to be suspicious of all magic users.
  • Goal: Othrol has spent his entire life for the answer to a certain question. Othrol wants to know the truth about Orcs, and whether or not they are doomed to be evil.

Tatisu, the Lightguard Sergeant (F)
  • Paladin, Human, Chaotic Good
  • Good relationship with Governor Imemptons. Tatisu has helped the governor to understand the value of different religious viewpoints, and the two have developed a friendship because of it.
  • Likes: Bravery, Tatisu is for the most part a simple woman, who values acts of courage and fortitude.
  • Dislikes: Outdoors, Tatisu has spent nearly her entire life in cities or in combat, and has little skill and little desire for for the wilderness.
  • Goal: Wishes to end the eternal slavery of Necromancy. While outwardly she doesn't appear religious, she takes her paladin oaths very seriously, in particular a person oath against necromancy and the undead.

Government

The City of Arnak is run by Governor Imemptons and the Lightguards. The governor has a council of nobles which he has appointed to manage the day to day affairs of the city, and also regulates and appoints the mayors which govern the various cities of the Demesne.
The overall alignment of the ruling powers of the city are Lawful Good. Governor Imemptons wants peace for the city and the Empire, because his Demesne is prospering on trade currently. The Lightguards are, in contrast, pushing heavily for war.

Defences

At the center of the city is a well fortified castle. The city proper is encircled by sandstone walls, which are further encircled by an irrigation canal that doubles as a moat.

Architecture

The majority of homes and buildings are built of red brick made from the local mud. Wealthier or more permanent buildings, as well as the walls and castle, are made of locally quarried sandstone.

Geography

The city of Arnak sits along the floodplain of the Kervakhen River. As such the dominant feature of the landscape is the river to the east. Immediately surrounding the city are irrigated fields. Spreading further out the land transitions gradually into grassy hills and then scrub-land.
