Lostwood

History

Known for being uncommonly difficult to find, many have gotten lost both going to and coming from the town. Travelers have been turned into residents by simply being unable to navigate back to where they came from. The problem is threefold:
  1. The forest around Lostwood is notoriously homogenous. Nearly all the trees look identical. In fact, all fauna in the surrounding area is surprisingly limited.
  2. Lostwood is home to Espen's only naturally occurring metallurgist field. When a vein of raw Everore was struck by lightning all the iron ore in the surrounding area was magnetized.
  3. The magnetic field that non-Lostwood natives are physiologically affected by it. Many have reported headaches, disorientation, loss of balance, and impaired judgment.
Ultimately this has created a rather insular culture, one almost wholly separate from Dwarven traditions and their respective kingdoms. Remaining largely independent Lostwood was one of the few cities that resisted the Red Commission.

Locations:

Opposites Attract Magnet Shop uses the magnetized ore found in the surrounding fields to craft tools and weapons. Though its well known to locals, travelers are advised not to draw any comparisons of the store name to its owners the Gnomish Tavin Lightfoot and his wife a former captain in BOSC Ran'nal Vas Klunk.   Though the Inn doesn't get a lot of business, Polar's Inn & General Store is always ready, their stock is standard but comprehensive. The owner, Callwell Polar had been next in line for a Red Vizar appointment when he suddenly and unexpectedly left his position and came to Lostwood.   On the very outskirts of the town is a damp and dank little shop called Hags-N-Bags.   Many are advised to keep their distance from the towns most notable art exhibit, frequently referred to by locals as "Finder Keepers". This 9-foot-tall statue is made of magnetized iron and can pull in metal items from as far as 15 feet away. While magical items are largely immune due to their Everore concentration, its sometimes used as a divining tool in trades and deals.
*Note: Once a month the statue is heated and demagnetized temporarily to clean it.
