The Altas Principa is the traveler's guide to the cities, towns, villages, and landmarks in Espen.
Major Cities - These cities are bustling metropolises. They are densely populated with 3,000 - 7,000 residents. Major cities are a part of a cluster of cities that make up a kingdom. Each of the 4 major cultures (Humans, Elves, Dwarves, and Gnomes) are well established and each has three major cities. A major city will have a predominant race and religion. As well as a full complement of accommodations, restaurants, shops, and stores.
Minor Cities - These cities are less dense and more sprawling and often associated with the minor cultures in Espen (Genasi, Tabaxi, Goblins, Orcs). These areas are moderately populated with 1,000 - 4,000 residents. A majority culture and a plurality religion, these minority towns are much more religiously tolerant, though the political ideologies run strong. Minor cities have most of the accommodations of major cities though prices are occasionally inflated.
Towns (Affiliated) - Most towns are considered patron towns. They pay taxes and are in turn protected by one of the major or minor cities. They are also given access to cities' resources and discounts within these cities. They are mostly cottage industries that support the patron city by maximizing production and revenue. These towns usually have a governor appointed by leadership in a Major city. Usually has amenities on a smaller scale than its affiliated town but may on occasion lack a full complement of tradesmen.
Town (Unaffiliated) - Towns that are unaffiliated have no patron city, and leadership within the town can be anyone from an elected official to a warlord. These towns lack the infrastructure to maintain a cottage industry but instead usually provide seasonal work in skilled trades or whatever is profitable at the moment. Safety is not guaranteed as at any moment marauders or bandits may set upon the town.
Villages - These loose-knit communities are small sleepy villages in which neither the residents nor the surroundings offer much excitement. Though they make an excellent place to hide or find hired hands for a task. Most common items cost more here but are also more well-made than their big-city counterparts.
Wild Territories - Areas that have very little in the way of organized government. There is also no organized rules or laws to keep the peace. These are frequently areas that have remained unsettled due to:
Warring Groups
Inhospitable Climate
Aggressive Native Population
The Elderplane - An ethereal extradimensional plane of existence inhabited by the Gods of this world. It was hypothesized that movement through the ancient and powerful world wells manipulated this space to allow for travel between set locations.
