Bloomsburgh
[History]
Just south of Tanalier lies some the most fertile land in Espen. Known as Bloomsburgh the land has been referred to as the Espen's Breadbasket, though they produce far more than bread. A number of spices (Lemongrass, Lavender, Sage, Eucalyptus), a number of root vegetables that grow exceptionally well in the well drained, deep, loose soil around the village (Beets, Turnips, Rutabagas, Carrots and Jicama), as well as a number of fruits native to the regions (including Persimmons, Plums, and Blueberries). The town's tiered gardens can make navigating the steeply inclined roads difficult for the carts and wagons transporting their produce up the 1,500 foot hill on which the town is built. For this reason, the town keeps a number of stands and carts for selling produce, during harvesting seasons the line for picking up the freshest produce can extend for miles. Though the town's major industry is farming, the town's largest employer is BOSC. The orcs of BOSC are utilized to not only keep the peace but to guard the farmland, which as extensive as it is, requires substantial manpower (or in this case orcpower) to ensure bandits and marauders (which are common for the area) do not escape with their produce.[Locations]
A co-op of farms off the south end of the village known as Deep Roots Gardens has mastered cultivating root vegetables. Their fried Jicama is a local favorite and has gained somewhat of a cult following among Dwarves and Deep Gnomes. While fresh fruits and vegetables are the primary export of the village, their proprietary pickling jars have created a wonderful secondary market. The jars require a unique key to open, and once sealed with a key, the jar can only be opened by the key that sealed it. If a Bloom Jar Company's jar is forced open without the key, it shatters destroying whatever is inside, and sending shards of glass in every direction. Making the jars secure means shipping and messaging due to their effective security measures. On the northern tiers high above the rest of the town is the Votwin Public Gardens and Inn which play host to the traders who frequent the markets as the base of Bloomsburgh Hill. The public gardens are usually utilized by the town's residents for their own families as opposed to being used for commercial use. Noticeable from the front gate of the town is the BOSC Guardhouse which sits in the mid-tiers and keeps careful watch over the village. Paid mostly in cost of living, extra produce, and silver, the Orcs here are usually those towards the end of their careers with BOSC or are otherwise atoning for some misstep within the organization and have been assigned this post as a form of discipline. But don't be fooled, they still make for formidable opponents if crossed. Sensible Incense, is a small perfume & incense shop on the back end of Bloomsburgh Hill, and utilizes the ever-expanding field of wildflowers that populate the sloping terrain to create near-perfect scents. While most of the wild lavender, rose, jasmine, sage, and sweetgrass grow in many places throughout Espen, nowhere else are the conditions right to produce flowers with the potent level of fragrance found in Bloomsburgh.
