Beggarsbourne

History:

Twinnam's opulence knows no bounds, however, it does have a cost. Beggarsbourne bears the brunt of that cost, and most born there consider it a curse. Though they are considered low-born the rest of the human territories found a use for the lowly village, manual labor. The town's main two exports are orphans and counterfeit gold and everore.   The city is widely dilapidated with a number of structures being used by squatters, only the main road leading into town is the only paved as the town went bankrupt prior to the completion of the city's plans. The only buildings that were fully finished and still standing are the Shadefare Orphanage, a now-defunct Gold Standard, and Kobold Dispatch. The buildings still serve a purpose as much of the equipment that was left behind found new life with the local gangs.   The local production of counterfeit gold, deeds, and treaties has had an increased focus on the human city as Elvish and Gnomish officials have seen their counterfeits from as far away as Tanalier and Spritzlewerks. Both the Gnomish Council and the Ashen Elders have sent envoys to the city in an effort to stop the counterfeiting, the local gangs sent back bodies. The city's primary revenue comes from the orphanage. Need bodies for your army? Need hired hands to tend your farms? The orphanage always has cheap (and unethical) labor.

Locations:

Though no one talks about it, it is commonplace for local officials to drop off children orphaned anywhere in Espen at the Shadefare Orphanage & Academy. A rundown former series of flats, that is perpetually overcrowded is inhabited by an army of children ages 6-18. The Orphanage is run by the local gang that rose out of the very orphanage they now run. Known simply as The Strays they are known for protecting their own but at the same time willing to look the other way for a good deal.   The other gang in the town is led by a particularly sadistic Gnome. Formerly a devout Irradeacent and a member of the Hands of Mazzu, he renounced his faith when his family was ambushed going through Beggarsbourne. His gang the Brummagem Boys set up both the Pyritic Standard (formerly the Gold Standard) Dispatch[ed] (formerly the Kobold Dispatch)
