Dalphin
Positioned on the inside of the largest bend of The Serpent's Tongue, Dalphin occupies a strategically important position on the entrance to the The Great Inland Sea. This position has brought it attention, both wanted and unwanted, from some of the biggest powers of The Shattered Continent.
Geography and Climate
Located on the inside of the largest bend in The Serpent's Tongue , this region transitions from grassy lowlands in the south to dense forests in the north. A range of hills known as the 'Balla Leathcheann', 'idiot wall' in local dialect, runs north-west along their border with Bommbergonia and the locals seem happy to leave it as wild, untamed, and dangerous as possible. The forests of Dalphin get denser and wilder the further northwards one goes and the remnants of the tribes of monstrous humanoids which once overran the region make their homes in these untamed forests and hills, safe from the armies of Bommbergonia and the clans of Dalphin.
Certaintree Forest
Stretching across the north of Dalphin and into Bommbergonia, Certaintree Forest is a region of dense and largely undeveloped forest which has something of a legendary reputation among the dalphinians. The forests are rife with fae creatures and hostile monsters, making any incursions past its very outer areas incredibly dangerous. The region was long ago declared a royal game preserve by the bommbergonians but the dalphinians generally pay no regard to this; for the locals who live near the edges of Certaintree Forest, poaching the king's game is practically a national sport.
The Lowlands
Taking up most of the south of the region, the lowlands have been largely cleared and turned into fertile farmland broken up by well managed forests, but as one moves north and into the hills and denser forests, things get wilder. The name 'Lowlands' is a bit of a misnomer, as the region is replete with rolling hills and valleys, and the various clans prefer to build their castles and holds atop the taller hills.
The Serpent's Tongue
It may not technically be part of Dalphin but the channel, often misidentified as a river, known as The Serpent's Tongue runs along three of Dalphin's borders and provides the bulk of the trade which reaches the region as well as a bounty of fish and other seafood. If you ask the dalphinians, their territory also extends out into The Serpent's tongue due to the fortress known as Daufys Castle which is located on a massive island in the center of the main bend in The Tongue.
