Clann Ó Phearais

One of the ruling clans of The March of Dalphin, Clann Ó Phearais controls an earldom situated towards the western side of The Bow which stretches from the shores of The Serpent's Tongue inland up the River Rose. The river is a bit too wild for easy movement of riverboats and barges and this has held the clan's ambitions back a bit, but has resulted in the development of a much more robust road network than most nearby regions.

Émer Ní Phearais

Main Article - Émer Ní Phearais

The current clan chief, or 'Countess' as far as the bommbergonians are concerned, Émer Ní Phearais is a deeply respected leader with tremendous political acumen and the widow of the great hero Coileán Mac Cailin. She defied her clan to marry him despite his lower status as a rhydd, enraging several ambitious clan and sept members in the process. In the years since his death she has refused to remarry, choosing instead to focus on leading the clan and raising their children; under her leadership the clan has prospered and their alliances are stronger than ever.

Coileán 'Cú' Mac Cailin

Hailing from a rhydd family of no great renown, Coileán Mac Cailin made a name for himself as an adventurer fighting monsters, outsmarting fae, and wooing women until he met his match in Émer Ní Phearais, heiress of Clann Ó Phearais. Their courtship was the stuff of legends, defying her family and enraging would be social climbers while being celebrated by the common folk. Jealous detractors deemed him her dog, giving him the nickname 'Cú' or 'hound' in local dialect and he embraced this name, turning it from an insult to a boastful title that he became known by far and wide.

Their marriage produced several children before it came to a tragic end at the fangs of a legendary linnorm. With the clan's most elite warriors all downed by its deadly breath, scything claws, poisonous fangs and thunderous tail, Coileán faced it down as his family fled, managing to strike it down before succumbing to its deadly poison. He is celebrated as one of Dalphin's greatest heroes for slaying the beast which had menaced the region for untold generations.
