The current Prince of Rosten, Patrese is very old and retired from active rule three years ago. He named Selphine as his regent. Patrese has outlived all of his children and all of his grandchildren. Selphine, his great-granddaughter is the oldest child of Patrese's oldest child's oldest child. In her youth, Selphine travelled widely. She set up her own mercenary company, the Braided Company, which was very successful operating in northern Arddol, the Synoppeian Empire and even the Glorious Republic. She left the Company to take up a post as Captain of the Hussian Guard, the Synoppeian Emperor's personal guard. She served in that role to great acclaim for twenty years. She was rumoured to be the mistress of the Emperor Shahanazzan and was given a genuine Calvisse rapier by him. On the death of her father, Selphine returned to Ostenkeen to take up her position as Grand Duchess. Three years ago, Prince Rosten named her as Princess Regent, to rule Rosten.
