Hussian Guard
The personal guards of the Synoppeian Emperor. Traditionally, members of the Guard are recruited from outside of the Synoppeian Empire because foreigners are considered less likely to get involved in palace intrigues or to want to help one or other political faction to gain influence over the Emperor.
There are typically between seventy and one hundred Guards, most of whom are regarded as highly skilled warriors.
The origins of the name are unclear. Folk belief ties "Hussian" with the hero Hus aef Sigg, but if Hus even existed (which is by no means certain), he would have been dead long before there was ever a Synoppeian Emperor.
