Declaration of Independence

The declaration that freed Mars from Earth's control.

After 150 years of Earth government control (via Earth Corporations), a newly created government is formed and elected to rule. Some smart political steering cleared the way for a complete Mars government. New corporate high technology companies support the formed martian government.
The Martians are now ruling the planet for several (mars) years and doing well. The declaration of independence states the freedom of Mars to develop and trade technology. They are no longer restricted in manufacturing. Mars has grown to become one of the main suppliers for electronics, small firearms and high tech components for vehicles. This would not have been possible without the declaration.

The declaration is digitally written and signed. A paper copy is signed by involved parties, using the "Absolutum Dominium", a unique fountain pen, made of crystal.
The declaration has been critisized several times, mostly by Earth politicians, who are afraid that Mars will turn against Earth. The truth is that Earth is now depending on Mars technology, and it will take a long time before Earth is capable of the same levels of technology.

Purpose

Large coprorations used to control Mars, under supervision of Earth. Corporations earned additional rights on Earth as long as they allowed the Earth government to control Mars. The Martians didn't like the way things where done and started to revolt. Some corporationw where fully Martian and disliked the favors the Earth government entitled to the Earth based corporations. The conflict endured, and after a bloody war it was finally settled. The new declaration of independence was signed and from that moment on, Mars was free.
