Kingdom of Livonia
Stage of Albion
The Easternmost kingdom in all of Albion, Livonia is often referred to as the Hinterlands, its largest region, by other citizens of the realm. Despite implying its backward nature, the kingdom is in fact quite advanced: it boasts one of the only constitutional monarchies in the realm with an active parliament, The People's Hall. It is also well known for its music, art and its emphasis on cultural preservation. Its current regent, King Piotr Romanov I has publicly endorsed funding for its museums and theaters, and is bringing about a cultural renaissance not seen since the days of the Empire.
While the kingdom possesses large swathes of territory, its land is relatively infertile. It produces enough to feed its citizens, but it supplements both its local supply and exports with a large sheep population. Its other worth comes from the ground: Livonia's hills have iron ore that runs through them like rivers and is by the far biggest supplier of the metal in all of Albion. Recently however, this blooming of the kingdom has been put on hold as all eyes turn to the military with the goblin invasion from across the Shallow Grave.
Demography and Population
Livonia is home to one of the only remaining giant populations in Albion, inhabiting the Molaris Stonefields. These neighbours are tolerated, though are held to the same laws as everyone else. This has created conflict between the freedom-loving giants and the law enforcement of the kingdom, since a giant has no concept of personal ownership.
Military
Livonia is not first and foremost known for its military, but it does guard one of the most important fortresses in Albion: Beograd. This imposing citadel has a large force of conscripts and professional soldiers that guard the Steps of Decay against any would be barbarian invasions, however with the recent goblin invasion many are considering if it is truly worth to keep such a large force stationed there, away from the rest of the kingdom.
Foreign Relations
Livonia has amenable relations with Asturias, as it had since the fall of the Empire. Frederick the Just has personally invested time and gold in order to keep this old relationship alive, and has reportedly even donated priceless artefacts to the museums of Livon to please King Piotr.
To the South, Livonia keeps a commercial pact with Norvos, mainly supplying wool and simple foods that it cannot produce on its own. Further than that, the Kingdom of Bassano sells its legendary wine to the nobles of Livonia, usually in turn for iron ore and good timber.
