Beograd
Beograd, the ancient fortress city of the North, has long defended the Steps of Decay against the raging barbarians of Trondheim. These northern berserkers are the sole reason for the city's existence, and as anyone who lives there could tell you: Nobody voluntarily lives in Beograd. Its citizen militia is made up of unwilling conscripts, its soldiery consists of men who were stationed there as punishment.
Despite this misery, the city has a relatively flourishing economy. Where an army is stationed, supplies and goods flow soon after it. Many traders from the West and the South of Albion bring wine, beer and other luxuries for the guards stationed here, who in return use their meager pay whenever they can. Beograd also produces fine timber from the Black Forest, one of the few settlements who dare to exploit the ancient wood of its resources.
