West Rim

The West Rim is a geographic region of Hyperborea bounded by the coastal waters of the Dyscrasic Ocean in the west, and by the western shore of Loch Shield in the east. Within these bounds are the geographic areas known as the Shieldwood, the Highmoor, and the Sunset Confederacy.   The most notable feature of the region, however, has to be the hundreds of thousands of islands which follow the coast along its entire length. Once home to the fiendish Principality of Vol Rukoth(3), today these islands are home to a staggering variety of settlements ranging from settled and agrarian city-states to lonely pirate strongholds in the sea. While it is beyond the scope of this article to examine all of these in detail, these are expanded as our travels take us to them, elsewhere.   Notable continental settlements in this region include the mercantile skyports at Strangeways, cosmopolitan Tallwater with its world-famous University, and the joyfully-haunted Temple Bluff. Prominent island cultures include the warring Banshee and Callypygos Islands pirate nations, the pastoral Tortua Lenka, and the eternal, unmoving tempest colloquially called Thunderhead.

1. Experts quibble over which shore defines this boundary, with most putting the boundary somewhere in the middle of the loch itself.
2. These are neatly divided by the river Wisidivescor, the long, deep, broad watercourse which drains Loch Shield to the Dyscrasic Ocean.
