Tallwater University
Structure
As is fairly typical of these arrangements, Tallwater University consists of Colleges, each devoted to a particular field of study and headed by a Dean. Originally, these were devoted to the study of the local Kerrangenai ruins and --more accurately-- the creatures found there, they soon branched into esoterics, natural philosophy, and other disciplines too numerous to list here in detail.
The College of Deans is the ruling body over all of the Colleges, and is led by a Chancellor. The Chancellor is the last word in University matters. They are elected to a ten-year term of service, and are allowed to serve two of these in a lifetime.
As mentioned, the Deans run things within their own College, managing the Professors in their organization. Traditionally, a Dean is appointed by their predecessor, but can be appointed by the Chancellor should unseen misfortune befall a sitting Dean.
Professors are subject matter experts, who retain a staff to assist in their efforts. Typically, these are teaching assistants, administrators, and graduate students, but experts from outside the University's employ are occasionally tapped to contribute professional expertise.
