Hopetown Settlement in Ember Myst | World Anvil

Hopetown

Aspects:

Strange mix of desperate refugees   A maze of streets and paths

Description:

The slum refugee village that has formed outside of Vrik-Bore. Filled with refugees hoping to find a way to sneak across The Lock and onto High Antillia.     Large populations of humans, some Halflings, and a small population of Elves. While few in number this is the largest population of Elves seen outside of the Silnithar Forest in living memory.

Demographics

Mainly human, with some dwarves, elves and halflings.

Government

Hopetown is a new shanty town composed mainly of refugees fleeing The Sinking. It is technically part of Vrik-Bore. However, the nobility of Vrik Bore have fled and the remaining inhabitants of the city have shut the gates and isolated themselves in the city. The Vrik Bore Enforcers have almost no influence in the town. In practice Hopetown is run by Miblob an a criminal organization present in the city before The Sinking, but they have increased in power as the refugees flood the outskirts of the city. The Sect of Truth has a presence doing charity work and helping the refugees. They also try to help the refugees avoid the brunt of the Miblobs cruelty.

Defences

Hope town has no official defense, but the haphazard nature of its construct has created a maze of paths and roads that make navigation very difficult.

Infrastructure

The main street in hope town has solid well made buildings that were built before The Sinking. As you move away from the main road, the building quality decreases. Some of the building were still built before the sinking, but housed the poor of the city that could not afford to live within the protection of the walls. The outskirts of Hope town are composed of tents, and ramshackle buildings that have been constructed with any material that could be found.
