Theussaun Ethnicity in Emaxus | World Anvil
Emaxus is currently undergoing a large entry into a new Age (and a large revision of the current Age). Consider this an active construction zone: things are moving around, getting changed, and the world's being reorganized. Apologies for the inconvenience!

Theussaun

Thanks to David Noren from Artstation for the great cover art!
Devotees of Yamma and followers of all his Children, Theussauns are the determined folk of the Theussaun Protectorate. Loyal to the Crown and the Children of Yamma, Theussauns range from nationalistic to cautiously optimistic of their nation and its future. By and large, Theussauns are industrious and determined, their noses ever to the grindstone; but, with such a large territory, Theussauns vary depending on the circumstances of their home.   Those on the First Line live under the watchful eye of the military, working day in and day out to support their local Divisions in the defense of the Protectorate against the infernal incursions of the Desolate Foothills. Those in Alnwick or Woodhurst know peaceful lives, farther from the government and the military, while those in Clifland or Theussau itself swear their lives to the Crown and the church -- or at least claim to. Depending on where a Theussaun is from in the Protectorate, they may have drastically different experiences.   But, a good way to summarize Theussauns is as such: they place a high value on a willingness to work hard and work together, and will always try to get along with someone first; however, their long-time peace, nationalistic tendencies, and long-standing communities means that even an unintended slight can be taken a sign of an unwillingness to support the community.

Naming Conventions

Theussaun names have three sections: chosen name, birth name, family name. At birth, a child is given a name by their family. Thus, children only have a birth name and then their family name. When a child becomes an adult, whether because they are entering the workforce/military or undertaking some other task that marks their adulthood, they take on a chosen name. This can be a nickname, a name befitting their race, or a cultural name. Below are some general examples of each., feel free to break the mold (family names are especially varied, depending on the racial and/or cultural heritage of the family).   Chosen Name: Amity, Diamondcarver, Egoron, Elizabeth, Finethil, Isolde, Ivy, Kaylein, Lief, Xuro Birth Name: Andre, Cayden, Daria, Edith, Edward, Karl, Marius, Raphaela, Sandra, Zayn, Zoey Family Name: Baird, Beckenbauer, Madritsch, McKay, Rankin, Rosenbaum, Stocker, Wallace

Culture

Major language groups and dialects

All Theussauns speak Common and tend to know one or more other languages depending on where they live and their heritage.

Culture and cultural heritage

Theussau was founded by Yamma's followers who were left at the Lake of Eternity in the Reckoning. From there, the Protectorate was formed by disparate settlements unifying for the greater good. These two facts define Theussaun culture. Devotion to Yamma and his Children is the single most important aspect of Theussaun culture, with a willingness to work together and work hard being second.

Shared customary codes and values

Theussauns believe that every single person on the planet has a role to perform in the furthering of mortal civilization. They live by Yamma's commandments, and try to find unity with all people, at least by having everyone work together; however, they respond quite violently to those who reject or fall outside of this image (see: the Camaerithian Concord and the War Against Orakgra).

Common Etiquette rules

Theussauns place the utmost emphasis on working with their fellow man. Yamma's decrees of mortal unity are their bread and butter, so Theussauns try their best to make community and break bread with all.

Art & Architecture

Theussaun architecture is heavily inspired by that of Yathra Silthame. Their homes and artisan structures tend to be wood and thatch or stone and tiling, built to endure and work well. Meanwhile, their churches and official buildings are tall structures of stone and marble, built to honor the gods and the Crown.

Ideals

Relationship Ideals

Theussauns are rather conservative in their beliefs surrounding marriage. Being such a religious people, they believe that true love is that which is consecrated by Yamma and Xaen in holy matrimony. They're also the only society to put any real emphasis on the idea of bastards. They don't care so much emphasis on marriage and the like as some real world societies, but they like it a lot.
