Marzak, the Ragebinder Myth in Emaxus | World Anvil
Emaxus is currently undergoing a large entry into a new Age (and a large revision of the current Age). Consider this an active construction zone: things are moving around, getting changed, and the world's being reorganized. Apologies for the inconvenience!

Marzak, the Ragebinder

"He slew my kin. I will slay his."

God of chaos, violence, rage, and demons, Marzak is war unrivalled. He was the martial champion of the Obsidian Lords and is the bane---or boon---of any great warrior. He knows nothing but singular rage and an unending lust for combat, and he desires for bloodlust and violence to wash over the multiverse as everything is consumed in the endless cacophony of war.    He is war unrivalled, but he cares little for things like deceit or even basic intellect. The Ragebinder knows only wrath, for his will is blood and his means are combat and war. His bloodlust can corrupt the hearts of even the purest souls who give themselves to war, and Marzak seeks to worm his way into the minds of every warrior in the multiverse and force them to give into their bestial wrath.

Depictions, Symbols, and Names

Marzak is most often shown as a massive, muscled and armored humanoid beast, akin to a great minotaur. His great bull head is cloaked in a blood-soaked hood, and his massive curved horns are slick with gore. He wields any number of weapons and armor (or lack there of) in his various depictions, but he is always engaged in combat with some great foe. In Aasveig, he is sometimes depicted as a manbear with the head of a gnashing wolf.   Marzak's symbol is the Goreskull. It is the horned skull of a bull. While the exacts of its depiction may vary greatly, devotees of the Ragebinder always feature some likeness of the Goreskull.   Marzak's most common names are: Marzak, the Ragebinder, the Beast, Rage, Wrath, War, and Ó-friðr in Aasveig.

Ancient Home

Marzak called Mathrak home. On those infernal fields of war, Marzak created a titanic fortress of wrath and gore. Since his death, the fortress has been fought over repeatedly and become a shell of its former self, devastated by the endless war that dominates the Fields of Blood.

Worship Distribution

Marzak's followers are countless and spread across every plane of Yophas---even if they're not conscious of their worship. Where war is reveled in and bloodlust is rewarded, Marzak is favored, even if his worship isn't official. Any warrior who gives into their rage, even for a second, allows the Ragebinder into their heart. At that point, it is a battle to prevent his corruption from spreading.   There are specific cultures most threatened by---or willingly involved with---Marzak's influence, such as Fenryrthal in Aasveig. The more warlike a society is, the higher risk they run of inviting the Beast's corruption. A civilization corrupted by Marzak has only two paths forward: endless war, or implosion. Often times, the former begets the latter. Marzak is, perhaps, the most insidious of the Obsidian Lords in this way; war is so common among mortal societies and Marzak waits behind every warrior's helmet.

Champions of Marzak

Champions of Marzak are known as Rageborn. They are unrivalled warriors capable of sundering the earth and splitting the skies with their battles. No Rageborn has been named in the Age of Extant, but records do exist of some from the Reckoning.
  • War. Bearer of the Flesh of Yov'urvil, War's origin was unknown, but the few records of their existence tell of unimaginable slaughter, of a Rageborn whose own body was an endless arsenal of weapons.
  • Kosus, Sunderer of the First City. Believed to have fought at the First Battle of Yathra Silthame, and may have destroyed the Xavarium with his blows.

Divine Domains

Marzak is god of chaos, violence, rage, and demons. Anyone who gives into their rage and embraces the chaos of war is a follower of Marzak, whether they realize it or not.

COMMANDMENTS OF MARZAK

  • THERE IS ONLY RAGE. GIVE IN.
  • COMBAT IS TRUTH. EMBRACE IT.
  • HIS BLOODLUST IS RIGHT, HIS WRATH IS GOOD. SHOW THEM THEY ARE WRONG.

Methods of Worship

War and slaughter are the only things Marzak cares about. The more death you deal, the more strength Marzak gives you; the more strength Marzak gives you, the more you lose yourself; the more you lose yourself, the more death you deal.

Father of Demons

It is believed that before the Reckoning demons as they are known today did not exist, or were far fewer in number, and that Marzak fused his blood with the Primordial Chaos to give the demons Ix'kythael was creating the endless lust for war and chaos they have now.   This is actually not true. The Primordial Chaos was born from the blood Marzak shed when he was imprisoned during the Reshaping.   In truth, Marzak is not a god in the same sense as the other Obsidian Lords. He is the Titan of Chaos, born from the devastation of the Obsidian War and slain by Yamma before he could grow. Thus, like the Elemental Titans and their Primordial Elements, Marzak's blood created the Primordial Chaos.

Titan and God

Because Marzak is both a Titan and a god, he has total control over Chaos alongside the power given by Divinity. For more information on Marzak as a Titan, see The Elemental Pantheon.

Ancient Foes and Allies

Isael is Marzak's greatest foe, for they are two sides of the same coin. Their followers hate each other deeply, and those who obey Marzak's will seek to throw down Isael's champions whenever given the chance. Similarly, Marzak was hunted by Kaedo, An'liceth, and Xaen, for the Ragebinder represented chaos and bloodshed and a direct threat to their domains.   Marzak and his followers will ally with any of his Lordly brothers and sisters, for their goals often involve death and war and those are the things he and his followers want.
