Lisonia

Summary

Serving as one of the major trade centers for Samonia, Lisonia is typically busy with traders coming in from the sea through the Port of Olassa or by land from Crotassus. The city has been ruled by the Merchant-Lord Christos Stanellis for nearly four decades after a series of skilled trade negotiations and trade deals led to him buying his lordship from King Yannis Pateras. However, about a year ago the Lord succumbed to a sudden illness that left him bed-ridden and locked in a coma that even the region's most skilled healers could not rise him from. While the Lord remains indisposed, his son, Merchant-Prince Marinos Stanellis was declared regent and has since ruled in his stead.
Lisonia is known to be a hub of information, it is said that so long as you have the coin, you can find someone to help with nearly any issue. For many years Lisonia was a prime starting point for Praetorians seeking adventure or to share stories of their recent accomplishments with the local populace at one of the many taverns that dot the city. Home to several well-known breweries, including the famous Boar's Head Brewery, ale is one of the major exports of the city and has helped fuel the social scene for years as rich tourists seeking to enjoy what Lisonia's high society has to offer flock to the city.
The past year has seen a dramatic turn for the people of Lisonia as crime and corruption has dramatically increased. Pleas to the Regent have gone unanswered and many claim that it is the Red Wolves who rule the city through well placed bribes of government officials. Even those in the countryside suffer as a recent rise in banditry and even kidnappings have swept the surrounding area. Taverns swirl with stories of ghosts and ghouls stealing away foolish travelers who dare set out at night, some claim to even have seen strange, hooded figures performing unholy magics in the woods surrounding the Pisydon Ruins. All but the wealthiest or most foolish of traders have ceased traveling to the city, leading to many established merchants to take control of large sections of the local economy, gaining monopoly control of many products and forcing many commoners and lesser artisans into poverty.
