Great Forest of Ilfenore

The Great Forest of Ilfenore is an almost endless sea of trees that cover most of Maertheryan . If it weren't for the Whispering Hills it would encompass almost the entire land. Some of the trees in Ilfenore stretch back to the time before The Cleansing, only the Forest of Nylar is rumoured to have older trees.
The northern reaches of the forest thin towards the coast and visitors to Maertheryan tend to enjoy this region more because of the higher levels of light. In parts the forest of Ilfenore can be as dark as night even on the brightest of days.
The city of Ilfenore accounts for what some believe to be the majority of the Elven people but no-one outside of Maertheryan knows the exact details of how many Elves dwell deep within the forest.
