Island of Romosa

The Island of Romosa is a tropical island surrounded by warm water with plenty of aquatic life. You can view the wonderful oceans and aquatic life from the pristine white sand beaches that surround most of the island, or from the top of the largest dormant volcano in all of Elium. The nature on the island is beautiful if somewhat overwhelming for most foreigners. The tropical jungle of Romosa houses some of the most exotic and deadly creatures found in nature. It is therefore recommended to never venture into the jungle alone. Most residents of the major settlements don't frequently travel to one another because of the danger.

The Island of Romosa has no central governing authority. The two major cities of the island are both ruled by their corresponding mayors. The lack of central authority allows free spirited individuals to roam the island and enjoy life to the fullest. This absence of real law gives the Island of Romosa a certain reputation amongst the denizens of Elium. Both governing mayors will certainly assure you that law does exists and that only a very small portion of the islands population are lawbreakers.

Structure

It is important to note that there is no central organization governing the island of romosa. Every settlement has it's own rules and regulations enforced by the inhabitants. This is often very confusing to outsiders as certain behavior might be accepted in the larger cities but no in smaller settlements and vice versa. Most visitors are warned by previous travelers that it is a wise move to learn the customs and regulations of the specific place you are visiting on the island of romosa.

The island of Romosa is considered a free paradise by everyone in Elium except those that live on the island themselves. While the people are certainly free spirited, that does not apply to the organization of the island. The two mayor cities on the island, Wangmata and Boronatta are controlled by their respective mayors. These mayors have a daily task trying to herd all the free spirited people sort of the same way. While they encourage people chasing their dreams and doing whatever makes them happy, hard lines need to be drawn to ensure a well functioning society.

Although the mayors don't work together and some rules may differ between the two largest cities, they have clearly taken some inspiration from one another as both cities have the same two big organizational elements namely, The orderly office and the trade office. These organization are tasked with maintaining order and ensuring equal trade opportunity and quality for everyone on the island.

Culture

Everyone on the island of romosa is far away from the dangers and the struggles of the rest of Elium, this allows most people on the island to focus on themselves and what they want to do. The climate is tropical, warm and relaxed and this also shows in the people and their demeanor. Most people on the island are relaxed, free spirited and see the everyday full of opportunity. Of course the island also has it's fair share of cutthroat traders working their asses off to strike it rich and get the best deals. Because of the mostly lawless nature of the island, it attracts it's fair share of outlaws, swindlers and other bad folk that hope to avoid repercussions for bad choices they've made in their lives.

While the island is incredibly rich in culture, from special foods to specific indigenous rituals it is starting to change. Throughout the years, more and more "mainlanders" have settled on the island gradually changing culture of the island to focus more on the free trade than the free spirit. The traditionally embedded sense of community is starting to be replaced and focus is shifting more and more towards individualism.

Universally accepted preconceptions followed by most inhabitants of the island are:

  • It's not my fault if someone else is stupid.
  • "Mainlanders" don't know shit.
  • The jungle has all the bad, and best stuff on the island.
  • Everything has a price.

Public Agenda

Because the island of romosa does not have a central governing authority it is largely unconsidered on the scale of world politics. Neither mayor or organization on the island sees this a problem and has any intent to change this. The public agenda has thus been unchanged for a long time and remains a simple message to the world namely, "Come to the island and explore the riches it can offer you."

Assets

The most important exportable assets found on the island are the various exotic animals and foods. The exotic animals are caught and sold for hefty sums to some of Eliums most wealthy and powerful individuals. Fruits and fish only found on the island and in the waters that surround it are magically preserved and shipped around the world, often to the same wealthy and powerful individuals.

Important assets for drawing people towards the island are the large pristine sand beaches, beautiful oceans and one of a kind jungles. They host a plethora of gorgeous flowers, plants and creatures. There are also multiple manmade reason for visiting the island, such as the carnivals and casinos that have found permanent bases on the there. These places are well knows for their capability of draining money from their visitors in whatever way they can. Even though this is well known, people keep visiting them anyways for their incredible allure and a one of a kind experience.

History

Though the island is rather close to the Alliance of Hurora it hasn't been recognized as a country for quite as long. This is mostly because the inhabitants of the island rarely leave it and actively try to stay away from large politics. Historically inhabitants of the island have been focused on exploring their own minds and capabilities together with their communities. Most people that travelled there from the regions of the now known Alliance of Hurora or Tridoroc never went back to talk about their newfound homes because they enjoyed the new opportunities of the island and freedom that came with it.

The two largest cities of the island, Wangmata and Boronatta where both founded at almost the same time, because the largest community from that time severely disagreed on fundamental life questions. The ensuing infighting caused the community to break up and found new places to live. Over time though, the communal spirit of both settlements has all but disappeared.

Military

Because the island doesn't expect any of the close countries to attack invade it, there is no standing army. The orderly offices are the closest thing the island has to a formal defense force but there is no central organization behind it. In fact, the jungle on the island itself is probably more deadly than most of the humanoid fighters on the island combined.

Religion

In the large settlements of the island you'll be able to find small temples and "holy" place for all the mayor dietys of Elium. Though the piousness of the various holy people in the towns varies greatly, the island is one of the few places in Elium where free worship of all gods is allowed. This in turn brings some of the most devoted followers of certain gods to the island. Most often though, you'll hear quick prayers to Fer, Ruler of Night or Nearlious, The Jester from those in the casinos or larger markets. and not so much others unless you visit dedicated places of worship.

Outside of the larger settlements you'll find most people living in closer communities and more in harmony with nature. Therefore worship of Doryn, Guardian of Death, Linessia, Goddess of Light and Gavis, Wrath of Nature occurs much more frequently the further you get away from the bustling large settlements.
