Mark

The Mark is the currency used by the Kingdom of Erdantia, Gaen, Aven, Silnear and Renies (all nations in the Peninsula of Erdantia. It is manufactured by Erdantia, but due to its strong economic influence its currency is used in much of the region. Marks are divided into the following:
  • One Mark. A small tin coin, engraved on one side with the Tyler family crest, and on the other the face of a lion, the symbolic animal of Erdantia.
  • Two Marks. Again, a tin coin, slightly larger, with the Tyler crest on one side and a whole lion on the other.
  • Five centhians. A bronze coin around an inch and a half across, with the Tyler crest on one side and King Ulric Tyler's face on the other.
  • Ten Marks. A small chip about two-thirds of an inch across and two inches long. On one side, an engraving of the Royal Palace, Drago, and on the other, an engraving of Renn Castle, the Old Palace. Both sides have details on the date and place of manufacturing carved into them. Below the Royal Palace is the Tyler family crest and below Renn Castle is the same lion

History

For about ten years following the independance of the Peninsula of Erdantia, the area still used Lindels (Cordaintine) as its currency. When trade began with Eseris, much of the money in Erdantia went to Eserisian traders. As a result of this, Erdantia faced several economic issues. A new currency was adopted. The Mark. The Mark remains the currency used in Erdantia today. When Gaen split off from Erdantia, it still used Marks as it thought of itself as being the 'true' Erdantia, and so should still use its currency. Aven was a different story. For a period of time after it's split from Erdantia, Aven used Verians (Eserisian) as its currency, but quickly converted to Marks when it became clear that trade with Erdantia was easier. Renies had used Marks from start with no plans to change, as it is too small to sustain its own mint. Silnear had a similar story, always being largely dependent on Erdantia, Gaen, and Aven in terms of economy.

Manufacturing process

The forging process of Centhians is quite cheap for the coins, with the metal used quite impure. The 10 Centhian chips are purer, although still relatively impure.
