Titania

The title "Titania", or "The Titania" is one granted to very few notable indivuals. It is commonly synonymously associated with the title "Queen" or "Empress". It is a title denoting leadership of the fae court. Like Oberon and Orin, the title is gender neutral. The title of Titania can be inherited, if the child of the acting Titania or Oberon is considered worthy of the title by the people. The title is just as likely to be handed to a member of the community who has demonstrated an aptitude for leadership and fair decision making.

Qualifications

Demonstrated capacity for fair and unbiased decisions as well as enacting the will of the people/in the people's best interests.

Appointment

The people hold a vote at one of the two annual gatherings or an emergency gathering to nominate, present arguments, and vote upon the candidates.

Duties

Resolve conflicts peacefully, handle matters regarding the everyday logistics of life, make decisions in times of crisis such as managing famine, disease, drought, and natural disasters. Judicate on matters involving foreign policy.

Responsibilities

Daily responsibilities include listening to the problems and concerns of the people and issuing fair judgements and resolutions.

History

Following the first of The Ten Year Storms the roaming Fae folk gathered to find a solution in the event another devestating storm occured. After the second storm, the first Titania was elected to lead the Fae folk in preparing for disasters. While the first Titania's name is lost to history, their work remains in the infrastructure set up to handle such disasters. Over time, other disasters were prepared for and their impact lessened by subsequent Titanias.

Cultural Significance

The creation of the title molded the Fae culture, shifting it from small nomadic groups with no real connection to small nomadic groups with ties to other nomadic groups, working together to ensure the survival of all rather than just their society. It has encouraged the creation of supply caches, permanent settlements, agriculture, and mingling of both Selie and Unselie fae.
