Personal history
Erwon was born to the elven maiden Eraina Silversong hidden in the wilds of Agaland. One of his first memories is staring up into the face of Hadrick Steelheart, murderous and angry. His second memory is being taken into the arms of Lillian Steelheart, defying her husband and taking him as her own. At the age of four, he entered into the "service" of the Queen, rarely leaving her side. The woman saw fit to hand raise him, despite being the illegitimate child of a slave and her husband.
For two years he was sheltered by the woman, though he never dared to call her or think of her as 'mother'. She never pressed it and to the kingdom he was a passing fancy to fill the gap left behind by loss. He comforted her through several miscarriages and finally, after a year, she managed to get pregnant and keep pregnant. Erwon was terrified of what this meant for him, but did his best to support the woman who cared for him. Despite her pregnancy, he was still treated as a son.
When Lillian's term drew near, Erwon became more fearful of the king. Despite her fragility and the risks posed, a two month journey was made to Gyrminia for Erwon to meet his 'uncle'. They arrived just before winter set. He was wary of his 'uncle' at first, but slowly warmed up to him. The man treated Erwon as if he was Lillian's child and doted on him. It was through Henry Ableford that Erwon discovered a love for music and stories.
On the last day of the year The Early Storm hit. Lillian went into labor early and despite attempts to keep the men out, good old Uncle Henry snuck Erwon through the secret passages to check in on Lillian. Finding his adoptive mother and baby brother not doing well, he did the only thing he could do, the only time he had ever done it. He went to the chapel and prayed to Myrada for their safety. The next morning he was allowed into the room where he held his tiny little brother, James Steelheart for the first time of many.
From that day on, Erwon was destined to be James' manservant, a role he embraced whole heartedly. They were unable to return home for some months while Lillian recovered. Despite the presence of the nurses and maids, Erwon tried to take primary care of his little brother, but mostly acted as a tiny guardian and the one to keep James contented when Lillian was sleeping.
Erwon's constant proximity to James and Lillian protected him from Hadrick when they finally returned home. Erwon's constant hovering around James was thwarted by Lillian once he was old enough to start schooling. His surrogate mother afforded him the best education in the kingdom and it delighted the boy to no end when she would look at Hadrick whenever he protested, smile so sickly sweet, and declare to him 'Erwon's education lays the path for James' education.'
By the age of ten, Erwon was doing well with his studies and reading to James every night before bed. His younger brother clung to him for safety and preferred him to the nannies their father hired. Unfortunately, Hadrick began to take part in Erwon's lessons weekly in combat. He was sure it was just an excuse to beat the boy senseless without interference from Lillian.
The constant abuse from Hadrick and his sycophants drove Erwon to dark places. But James always drew him back. The boy had a knack for knowing when he was planning to attempt to end himself and getting in the way. Soon enough, he learned why. James confessed to seeing shadows around things that were going to die soon. Stunned by the revelation, Erwon lulled the boy to sleep and sequestered himself in the library to research it. Finding nothing, he forced James to repeat himself to Lillian the next day.
Together, Lillian and Erwon hid James' ability from the rest of the world. He threw himself exclusively into the role of James' personal servant and with the help of the prince guard, James was taught to do things on his own, despite pouting and complaints.
Years later, Erwon was faced with a cold reality. He was not the only one abused by Hadrick. Though he was beaten in combat practice from spite and hate, James was beaten far worse to shape him in Hadrick's image. At fourteen, he began seeking out ways to subvert his father. He shifted his education to the art of forgery and deception, drawing inspiration from a favorite tale of The Wandering Minstrel. At sixteen he was caught on his first attempt by Lillian.
He had not expected the woman who had treated him as her own and taken him under her wing to do what she did. She introduced Erwon to several members among the staff who were active rebels against Hadrick. He was afforded leave and training with these servants, easily disguised as learning the trade to serve James better. In reality, he learned the techniques he needed to aid the cause. Lillian was the rebellion leader, and Erwon was quickly rising through the ranks.

Connections have afforded Erwon the highest quality education available in Agaland. Erwon is capable of reading and writing in several languages, skilled in math, and educated in politics, history, and music. His adoptive mother has set him up to assist the crown prince as an advisor when he takes the throne, but could also rule if he were put on the throne.
Through the visits with his 'Uncle', Erwon was afforded an education in magic, his education continuing through long distance communications with his mentor and occasional winters of tutoring provided by Lillian and Henry.
Employment
From the age of four, Erwon was trained as a servant. Once his younger brother was born, he was 'employed' as a care giver and paid very well for being a 'big brother' to the young prince. In his teens, his job title shifted more to the 'personal servant' role for James for Erwon's safety. In the future, he is slated to be James' advisor.
