Mystraen
Overview
Mystraen, the Goddess of Secrets and Whispers, is a figure cloaked in intrigue and ambition, embodying the shadows where power and desire intertwine. Known as the "Shadow Weaver" and the "Voice in the Dark," Mystraen thrives in manipulation, seeking to reshape the world according to her vision. Though often labeled as malevolent, her actions stem not from cruelty but from a firm belief that her path is the right one, regardless of who is harmed in the process.
She is the daughter of Darkness and Chaos, inheriting their cunning, unpredictability, and ruthless determination. Her partnership with her half-sister, Lyrina, Goddess of Illusion and Trickery, brought the Fae into existence—a race embodying their creators’ duality. While Lyrina sought to bring wonder and joy to the Fae, Mystraen infused them with ambition, wings, and arcane power, making them creatures of mystery and potential for both light and shadow.
Origin
Born of the union between Chaos and Darkness, Mystraen was destined to inhabit the spaces where uncertainty reigns and ambition festers. From the moment of her creation, she sought control and influence, believing the world could only thrive under her guiding hand. Her gift for manipulation and her talent for keeping and exploiting secrets made her a master of intrigue, both among the gods and mortals.
When the gods began creating the mortal races, Mystraen saw an opportunity to leave her mark. Collaborating reluctantly with her half-sister Lyrina, she contributed wings and raw magical energy to the Fae, shaping them into beings that could navigate the space between beauty and danger. Yet, after her banishment, Mystraen abandoned the Fae, leaving them to forge their own path without her guidance.
Personality
Mystraen is a complex and calculating deity, driven by her desire for control and recognition. She views the world as a game of power, one that she intends to win at any cost. Her charm and intelligence are undeniable, allowing her to sway others with honeyed words and promises of glory. However, her relentless ambition often blinds her to the harm she causes, and her inability to tolerate rejection has led to some of her most destructive actions.
Despite her darker tendencies, Mystraen is not entirely without remorse. Her abandonment of her son, Phyrnos, God of Fear and Courage, weighs on her, though she would never admit it. Her exile has left her isolated, fueling her bitterness but also forcing her to confront the consequences of her actions.
Betrayal of Valerion
Mystraen’s most infamous act was her obsessive pursuit of Valerion, God of War and Valor. Long infatuated with his strength and honor, she was deeply offended when he chose Amoria, Goddess of Love and Beauty, over her. Refusing to accept his rejection, Mystraen infiltrated Valerion’s dreams, weaving illusions that made him sleepwalk and become vulnerable to her manipulation. Over years, she twisted his dreams to create moments where he believed they shared an intimate connection.
This culminated in Mystraen forcing herself onto him, an act that resulted in the birth of Phyrnos, God of Fear and Courage. Believing that the child would bind Valerion to her, Mystraen was shocked when he reacted with horror and turned away from both her and Phyrnos. Mystraen’s interest in the child quickly waned, and she abandoned him entirely, leaving Amoria to take on the role of his mother and instill in him the courage to balance his fear.
Amoria, deeply enraged by Mystraen’s actions, demanded justice. Mystraen’s powers over dreams were stripped from her and granted to Oneira, her half-sister Lyrina’s daughter. Mystraen was banished from the devine realm and moved herself to an isolated island in the far reaches of the ocean, where she lingers in bitterness and exile.
Worship
Despite her exile, Mystraen is still worshipped by those who value secrecy, ambition, and the pursuit of hidden truths. Spymasters, conspirators, and individuals seeking power often pray to her for guidance, believing her whispers can reveal the secrets needed to achieve their goals.
Her temples are shadowy sanctuaries, hidden from plain sight and adorned with intricate patterns symbolizing the labyrinth of lies and truths she navigates. Offerings to Mystraen often include tokens of deceit—sealed letters, forged documents, and objects stolen in secrecy.
Appearance
Mystraen is a vision of dark, otherworldly beauty, her emerald-green skin shimmering faintly like the surface of a forest at twilight. Her piercing golden eyes glow with a predatory intensity, framed by sharp features that exude both elegance and danger. Silver hair cascades down her back, tangled with leaves and shards of obsidian that gleam like stars in the night.
Her golden horns, resembling twisting branches, crown her head, emphasizing her connection to the arcane and her ambition to rise above all others. She wears armor-like adornments crafted from living vines and dark metal, which shift and grow as if alive. Her wings, black and edged with shimmering gold, extend powerfully from her back, a testament to her influence over the Fae and her lingering sense of authority.
