Northern Reaches

In the farthest boundaries of Eldaivyr lies the Northern Reaches, a land wrapped in the relentless embrace of snow for nearly half the year. Here, amidst the towering ice-capped mountains and frost-laden forests, dwell the Reachfolk—a rugged assortment of Goliath, Minotaurs, and other hardy souls who have carved a life out of the biting cold. Defined by their unwavering resilience and fierce independence, these tribes navigate a world far removed from the bustling cities and green pastures of the south. Bound not by the laws of a formal nation but by the ancient rhythms of survival and tribal loyalty, the Northern Reaches stand as a testament to the enduring spirit of its inhabitants, thriving in a landscape that demands as much respect as it does reverence.

Trade & Transport

Major Products Traded

  • Animal Products: Including furs, bones, and meats from the hunting expeditions of Goliaths and Humans.
  • Crafted Goods: Minotaurs are renowned for their intricate metalwork and weaponry, which are highly prized both within and beyond the Northern Reaches.
  • Herbs and Medicinal Plants: Known only to those who can survive the harsh conditions, these are often traded for goods unavailable in the region.

Transportation Methods

The primary mode of transportation is via sleds pulled by large beasts (like direwolves or reindeer), which are well-suited to the snowy and treacherous terrain. The Goliaths, with their strength, often lead caravans that traverse the snow-covered expanses.   Rivers, when not frozen, are used to transport goods on small boats during the thawing seasons.

Trade Agreements and Routes

There are informal but well-established trade routes that connect the different tribal areas with each other. The most significant trade occurs during the annual Gathering, a month-long event during the summer solstice where tribes meet to trade, resolve disputes, and celebrate their cultures.   External trade is limited but growing, as traders from the southern lands venture into the Northern Reaches to acquire unique northern goods, often braving the harsh conditions for the valuable trades they can secure.
